love the soundtrack...haven't seen the movie yet...i don't watch movies in the summer...too much going on outside...this will be a good rental for a snow day
Sounds like good news. I don't have the $ to go out w/ friends and watch it in a theater (I'm broke), so I'll download it on bit torrent and watch it tomorrow and write something up about it.
You can't afford the matinee on the weekends? Mikey, just get your ticket, pass concessions, and see the flick.
Seeing black people play servants in a film called The Help isn't high on my list of priorities in the year 2011. I don't need to see it to know how they felt. They didn't like it. The End. What's there to see?
Plus, it's a "White lady rescues the black people, see how enlightened they are?" sort of film, from what I hear. I posted an article on it last week in another thread..think I gave it it's own thread, but it might have been in the Movies thread.
I don't think Skeeter "saved" the maids, they saved themselves. See the movie or read the book and then give a opinion.
I'm sick of seeing black folks in old Slave/Mammy movies. Every now-and-then I'll watch it on DVD or HBO but fuck going to the theater and paying to see it. I heard it was a good film, though.
I haven't even seen a preview so I wouldn't know any more than what you have said. You are the first to say they have even seen it. What was it you liked so much about it?
It was a great book. I doubt the movie was able to capture everything the book did, but that's how book to movie translations are. Anyway. I still plan to see it, and I highly recommend the book. See it or read it before making sweeping generalizations.
I put this in a similar category as I did the Blindside at least for my purposes meaning that I won't see it but it'll probably be nominated for a few Oscars!:smt092
Yeah, because black people always have 'great' performances when they're seen as the 'help' or being rescued by 'good' people or they are corrupt cops. Fuck that. No thanks. And like I said earlier, yeah, the movie is probably good but I'm tired of seeing African Americans portrayed in that light, especially considering all the things the culture has been through in the United States.
