Of course, he says he meant the urban jungle and he chose bunnies because they are cute and cuddly.

Tory councillor suspended after calling rioters 'jungle bunnies'
A Tory councillor has been suspended from his party after calling rioters "jungle bunnies" on Facebook.

    9:37AM BST 18 Aug 2011
Bob Frost, a councillor on Dover District Council in Kent, made the comments on August 7 as riots and looting spread throughout London.
The 49-year-old, who is also a maths teacher at the Sir Roger Manwood's grammar foundation school in Sandwich, amended his comments after being called up by colleagues telling him he was being racist.
Mr Frost wrote on August 10 - three days after writing "jungle bunnies" on his Facebook wall - that he had been phoned up and accused of racism.
He posted: "I have just had a phone call that accused me of racism for my above posting.
"Looking at the dictionary it would appear that the term jungle bunnies is pejorative and is a racist slur relating to African-Americans.

"Needless to say I did not mean to use any offensive racist term and was referring to the urban jungle."
He added: "As for the bunny bit it was originally 'animals', but I thought people might object to me calling fellow humans this so I chose something I thought was innocent and also cuddly."
The councillor then removed this posted after another call from a fellow Tory and he has this week been suspended from the Conservative Party while an investigation into his conduct takes place.
A panel of district council members will meet to discuss Cllr Frost's comments before deciding on further action later this month.
Speaking this week to the Dover Express newspaper, Cllr Frost apologised 'unreservedly' for his comments.
He said: "What I said was wrong and I apologise unreservedly.
"I am mortified by the offence that I have caused and have deleted these comments - I am very sorry."
Deputy leader of the Tory-run council Sue Chandler said: "There is no place in our society for this kind of language.
"We have therefore suspended Mr Frost from the Conservative Group pending an investigation."
In a previous Facebook posting from the councillor he had a go at single mums - saying he was paying for their lifestyle.
He wrote: "You might ask how all the single mothers congregating with their push-chaired spawn are able to afford both their beer and their tattoos - I have a horrible idea I am paying for both."

I haven't heard that word in AGES and now this is brought up? After all, this is in Dover...and the mayor in Dover is part of the British Nationalist Party.

Do you think that British Africans would go in an uproar like African-Americans?

Probably not since most of them are first or second generation immigrants.

I don't think they'd bother unless it's something incredibly severe.

Hmm. I've not yet been to the U.K. I thought that jungle bunnies was a solely American epiphet. Doesn't Britain have UK-specific epiphet for black and brown folks; why borrow an American one?

At least the man doesn't claim the liberal or progressive parties.

I am certain this man's racial arrogance makes it hard for him to accept that whites do bad things, sometimes really bad things. He then drops some successful Black persons name as an example of 'good Blacks', he thinks by acknowledging the 'good Blacks' it means he is not judging all Blacks therefore he cannot be racist. Fact is he is about thirty years behind the more sophisticated and savvy bigots here in the U.S., he can learn a great deal from our racists.

Absolutely spot on. I must say his comments on "good blacks" reminded me a bit of the Biden gaffe about Obama being "clean" and "articulate" in 2008

    dunno

i think many of us strive to be clean and articulate. when going for interviews, we aim for the clearest, most understandable language we can speak. we make sure our hair is cut, our beards are gone, etc, etc, etc. We make sure our suit is tight and that our gators ring supreme.

why get upset when someone acknowledges what you set forth? do you not like the way you present yourself?

Oh, I don't think Biden meant any harm by what he said - but the way it came out was like it was surprising that a black man was clean and articulate.

    heh

i'm just sayin.' I know when going for professional posts, many of us white, black, asian, whatever, do our best to present ourselves in our best way. If I fly through an interview with my hosts telling me how smart, articulate and clean cut I am, i'd be happy. I would be expecting a job offer soon.
