Waking Sleeping Beauty is a good to see for anyone that enjoys animation, especially Disney animation. It is a look back on the golden years of disney and how they rose to popular heights with hits like Beauty and the Beast and Little Mermaid, etc.

 

Page One - documentary on the NY Times and newspapers fight for survival

Beats, Rhymes and Life - documentary on Tribe Called Quest

 

Reversal of Fortune - A homeless man finds $100,000 in a suitcase and basically the documentary people are following what he does with all that money. Pretty depressing especially when it's a change of direction to get back into a stable life.

Super Size Me - Morgan Spurlock basically went 30 days with simply eating nothing but McDonald's food. It's interesting and funny all at the same time.

Gay Republicans - A documentary following Log Cabins who are trying to find their place in the mainstream GOP coalition. Everything is pretty much in tune with conservative philosophies except for gay rights.

Kervorkian - A documentary chronicling Jack Kervorkian AFTER his release from prison. He entered the Congressional race in his home state and lost, although he has had some considerable support for a third party candidate.

The God Who Wasn't There - Brian Flemming exposes the problems with indoctrination upon our youth through religious dogmatism.

The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia - Want to see our own version of Bogans and Bush pigs? Then look no further than observing a bunch of happy go lucky simple minded people that would have Uncle Ruckus call heaven. Follow these people around as they live in "happiness."

Superheroes - Believe it or not, in the United States, we have people who literally dress up as superheroes and protect the cities they reside in. Interesting documentary and would make you feel a little more "protected."

The Grizzly Man - Want to laugh or cry, follow this person who was maimed and eaten by a bunch of bears he sworn to protect from the poachers and all that. It's a sad documentary at best and it's a fine one from Werner Herzog.

The Film is Not Yet R-ated - There is a conspiracy in which the ratings system isn't as fair as you'd might imagine.

 

Just watched some of this on HBO. Will have to catch the full show this weekend sometime. Made me think of the black dude we had up this way in Seattle , Phoenix Jones, a few months back who was running around in costume patrolling the streets before someone ended up breaking his nose and putting an end to his hero career.

 

Yup, that's one of them. He wasn't in the documentary, but he is a self-professed superhero. Sort of sad if they think they are Batman. They seem more like Blankman than anything else because they think simply wearing a costume makes them "super."

In Kansas City, NOW in New York, there's a superhero by the name of Nyx and she patrol the streets at times. This is her:

She's an interesting character and probably would attract a large audience if she simply did something for a change and not simply walk around.

the most realistic hero would be someone along the lines of the Punisher. He had elite training in the military, a cool hideout, no superpowers, and still kicked serious ass. Taking to the streets with a cool costume, some buffness, and a frown doesn't work. You need to hit da block with an uzi and some grenades if you wanna stop crime:smt095

 

The Punisher isn't realistic by any means. A one man wrecking crew is more a fable than anything else if you're going to barge in places and be gung-ho.

For years I've always wondered why a group of snipers didn't take out gang bangers where they're from. It might bring up body counts but drugs would be waaaaayyyy down. It just makes more sense to me than the overrated direct approach. Bet you niggas wouldn't be "huggin the block" and making parks unsafe for little kids anymore.

 

Superhero is the wrong word to use for anyone like that. Secondly, he's more of a vigilante, which is a more realistic portrayal, though it's done in an unrealistic fashion and my reasons were explained in that post.

 

and think about it...

how many times have you heard of someone with no military training and a weak pistol, barge into a place and kill 5-6 people before being subdued or killed themselves?

add the training, preparation, patience, and equipping of a green beret, and you'll see how much more effective they could have been.

against regular trained forces, these guys are wrecking crews. that's how they're trained and raised since they go out in smaller numbers against larger forces in their own backyards.

apply these guys to street hoods with no training, and voila.

 

Realistically that wouldn't happen unless there was a complete code of silence amongst those dudes and they can't have families or loved ones
