I agree with jaisee, college education is WAY overrated. I have said that shit plenty of times on this board and to the HS students that I mentor. You don’t have to go to college to make a good living nor to have a great future. Also college is not really the measure of intelligence either. But if you get a scholarship be it athletics or academics or your folks are willing to fork for it, then I say go for it, especially if you don’t have any definitive future plans.
There are tons of successful ppl who never went to college or dropped out of one and became successful; Bill Gates & Mark Zuckerberg come to mind.

in all seriousness tho, having a job with a good schedule or taking advantage of online options helps tremendously

obviously not everyone needs or is even suited for college, but if you play it right it will help you. There's a reason why statistics say college grads on average make more money over the course of their lives than non-grads. If that doesn't tell you to do something, I don't know what else to say.

 

A ton is 2,000 pounds. I doubt that Gates and Zuckerberg together equal half that. I also doubt that two guys, figuratively, equal a "ton" either.

I won't get into the college debate because it's a well-worn topic on this board, and for whatever reason so many black men are aggressively in favor of less education. Where is that blackguyatprinceton dude? Only twenty and more capable intellectually than guys old enough to be his father.

 

I'm not against it, not one bit. I just think it's overrated. I'd never tell anyone NOT to get an education.,. especially a black person who already has the odds against them.

I was just fortunate enough to have a really good opportunity at a very young age. Now I make considerably more than a lot of my counterparts and I'm not over 50k in debt.

 

You’re right this topic has been discussed many times on this board. And I would like to point out that I am not knocking college down. The issue I have is when someone takes out serious loan and goes to college and major in something not very marketable. That person ends up going back to live with mommy & daddy and unemployed, that is my concern. Other than that I got NO beef with higher education, Christ knows it has been more than good to me.
