WASHINGTON -- Freshman Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) said Wednesday that he is "the modern-day Harriet Tubman" leading people away from the plantation, which is overseen by "perceived leaders in the black community" like Jesse Jackson who bow to the wishes of white liberals.

During an appearance on Fox News' "The O'Reilly Factor," West said black Democrats have consistently failed to address high unemployment in the black community and, in the meantime, continue to take black votes for granted come election time.
"So you have this 21st Century plantation...where the Democrat party has forever taken the black vote for granted, and you have established certain black leaders who are nothing more than the overseers of that plantation," West said. "And now the people on that plantation are upset because they've been disregarded, disrespected and their concerns are not cared about."

He's a modern day Harriet Tubman? Hmmm...it's possible that he could have had a sex change operation prior to his run in office. I see the resemblance. But the attitude? HELL NO!!!!

Mr. West is talking to the people who voted him into office . . . which is the elderly white folk in Florida.

Saw on The Ed Show last night and found out that Mr.West suggested his brother whom is unemployed to go to the job fair sponsored by the Congressional Black Caucus in Atlanta. What a hypocrite!

I got no problem with blacks being Republicans (freedom of choice folks) but what he said was so freakin stupid. He should apologize for his over the top rhetoric.

Well guess that means he sold his brother into slavery on the preverbial Democratic Plantantion. He's just basically catering to conservative base that elected him.

Damn, the coons are coming out the woodwork. Makes me wonder exactly how many blacks fought to stay on their plantations after Lincoln freed the slaves. Back then they had the excuse that many couldn't read or write or vote, or knew nothing of the outside world. But it's 2011 now and we've got guys like this. Shameful.

It's been this way for a while actually. Remember, we had J.C. Watts and he was talking like this before West came onto the scene. It's shameful that someone like him were to speak out as a nut.

I admire and respect Colonel West and what he did to protect his men in Iraq. I find it laughable that the same people who want to marginalize him are the same anti-military crowd who want to destroy the greatest military machine on the planet. Why is it everytime a tough talking black man appears whether it's West, or Nutter, Cosby, Powell when it comes to holding blacks accountable for their actions the far left sends out it's minnons to discredit them or destroy them. As one black liberal (progressive) female said recently on our local talk show, "These kind of black men need to be put in their places". Just like what happened historically to black men like Malcolm X and King who were deemed threatening to the white elites and their black slaves to do their bidding. A strong black man is not tolerated in this society.

False equivalency kiddo. People like myself (who is an unabashed liberal) admire people like Cosby, Nutter, and Powell for what they have to speak on. West, on the hand, demonstrates a typical attitude commonly associated with the rest of nutty right-wing crowd spewing misconceptions and harbor such ridiculous attitudes in the mold. You can't put West in the same category as the other three because he's a questionable person, even on military record.

...just curious-- has west written any bills that he is trying to get passed?

..and I remember he once promised to join the congressional black caucus, ostensibly to try and get them to see his way on issues.. has he been known to engage them on topics at all..

..and for his district in florida, how big of a minority population do they have?
