Yes it is. I swear by this thing I love it. I guess I'm also biased since I already own an iPod touch. No need to by a bigger one for 800 dollars. Fricking ridiculous lol.

I have an iPod but my phone is an Android. I'll look into your tablet, thanks. When I was still working full time, I'd have dropped the 800 on the iPad without thinking about it, just for fun, but until I see how the new income is going to work out long term, I'm trying to be a bit conservative about my spending.

And that's why I love my tablet. I quit my job last year to go back to school. I have a side gig but I only make half of what I did so I have to be frugal now

I've got an income of about 60% of what I had (in the low 6 figures), but it's not certain yet how much, if any of it, is taxable. So that's what I'm waiting to figure out. The good news, I guess, is that I've been shelling out over $10,000/yr for the last five years to foot my son's entire tuition bill, and that's over - so the drop in income doesn't seem as harsh as it could have. I recognize I'm privileged, and that a lot of full time working people don't have an income as high as mine is now. I paid for good long term disability insurance and I'm damned glad I did now.

What are you planning to study?

A dual program in applied mathematics and economics. I actually talked to my mom about that this morning while she was getting her hair did.
I'm excited. It's a four year commitment to get a Phd but I am so up for the challenge and I am so blessed that my mom wants to foot the bill for me now. I just want to teach and educate people and make a decent living and hopefully have my comprehensive plan to restructure the education fiscal policy in this country published. So many things have been showing me there is not better time than right now to change your life. I am so in love with life right now. Excuse my lameness lol

I think it's wonderful! If I had not gotten MS, I'd probably have put my son through a PhD, which I think he eventually wants. He took a double course so his BA is in History, with enough Education credits to teach. He's got his fingers crossed that a position will open up in the school where he did his student teaching. It's in a lower income neighborhood in the city, and while it does not pay as well as the schools closer, he feels like it's a place he can really make a difference. He was very excited at the end of the year when the students and teachers asked him to come to the high school graduation and sit with the staff.

Yes, I raised a leftist progressive. In fact his politics are, believe it or not, far to the left of mine.

I've actually pointed that out a time or two. He's a bit offended. But then, he's never worked for a living, never balanced a checkbook, never had bills to pay of any kind.

I suspect his "non-Marxist communism" is likely to slide a bit rightward once that changes.

I use to think the same way especially with a poli sci background but when you get older you realize people need incentive they won't work hard without it. Most people don't have this intrisic love for others or for doing a good job so when he actually sees the real world and how the incompetance of others he'll change his mind.

Yes, he had been of the "everyone should just do what they love and get paid the same" until I asked him who, exactly, was going to love cleaning toilets for a living. That brought him up a bit short, but he decided that everyone should work half the time at what they love and half the time at what needs to be done that no one wants.

I suspect paying his own rent one day may change that a bit.

BS. Intelligence is overrated. Give me a woman who can cook, clean, scrub, knows when to keep her mouth shut, who barely speaks english & who likes to spread her eagle, lol.
