I almost fell into the same trap with a house. Almost spent WAY too much on a foreclosure, fortunately an investor made that an impossibility by paying cash for it. I did do it with my car though. For my lifestyle a 2 grand jeep would be perfect for transporting my bike, boards and camping gear. Instead I bought an Audi A4. Initially I was looking at the A6 but the girl that I was dating at the time talked some sense into me. She tried to talk me out of the A4 but I was determined to get something that 'reflected how hard I work' or something. I regretted that purchase as I drove it off the lot.

Never been my primary focus. Doesnt mean I didn't want to take care of business nicely, but money is only means to an end, not an end in and of itself.

You can be happy without money. You can be happy *with* money. You can be miserable without money, and miserable with. If I have to be miserable, I'd rather do it in some comfort ;-)

Yeah tell that to people who aren't living in a country with socialized healthcare and low unemployment. Its easy for most of us to say that because our needs are being met. I look at money as all that stands between me and my loved ones from having to deal with poverty and destitution.

Coming from a third world background makes me appreciate the fuck out of money.

    I hear you.

As I have said on here before, I have had lots of money and I have had no money. I lost everything I owned a number of years ago. House, car, investments, dogs....the works.

When that happens it puts things into perspective. I would never do anything for or because of money. I put my happiness first and deal with the rest of it.

I am lucky that I have a good job that pays me well but I would walk away in a heartbeat if I was not happy.

I need to be able to eat, have a roof over my head and the rest is gravy! I find my own happinesss.....money doesn't find it for me

to be honest, i don't think you appreciate money, i think you obsess about money. worry, stress & dream about it. this obviously is because of your background

EDIT: no disrespect at all intended there either fanny. :smt058

Not buying that more expensive house worked out beautifully for me. I paid cash for 5 years of college for my son (he had two majors, sort of - he has a BA in history and enough education credits to qualify as a teacher, so the program was 5 years). Neither he nor I have a dime of debt from that.

And since I can't work like I used to, having a tiny mortgage payment is really helpful now. I have a 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath house with a fireplace, two decks, mountain views on a 1/4 acre treed lot, and my payment including my property taxes and homeowners insurance is less than $800/month. I put down nearly 40% on a thirty year fixed rate at 4.375%

None taken you're actually very accurate. Like I've said before I won't argue sound logic.

I guess it comes from being raised in a culture and in an area where having money defines MOST of your choices. It defines how you live and how others treat you and like I've said before I've yet to witness in my life a woman love a man who didn't have far more than she had. Again one of the reasons I'm trying to move
