This discourse is humorous in some regards. It reminds me of many discussions I had with a former girlfriend, a Jewish lady from N.Y. The first time I mentioned that I had dated a Jewish lady when I lived in Chicago, she laughed. Her reply was something to the effect, "There're no real Jews in the Midwest, there're just confused Jews."

On one occasion she mentioned that on Sabbath the conservative Jews would literally throw rocks at the cars of other less conservative Jews who chose to ride in cars on Sabbath.

She wasn't satisfied with the conservative synagogues and joined a Reformed congregation. She once told me that she had a conversation with her Rabbi and told him that she was an atheist. The Rabbi told her that was fine.

Then, you have your Messianic Jews who believe in Jesus.

So, there seems to be plenty of room for people with all kinds of beliefs to be accepted with the Jewish community.

Btw, my former Midwestern Jewish girlfriend offered to be a surrogate parent for me, after our relationship was finished. I guess if I had taken her up on the offer my child would be a "true" Jew in your eyes.

 

I didn't say I agreed. Read the post. Also as she had moved to a reformist synagogue.....as I said they are much more open.
