I saw the story on this last week, and I think it is unconscionable of the insurance company to deny treatment based on gender. Breast cancer is breast cancer. Same disease, no matter who has it.

 

yeah, I was thinking of the same thing. It is just the fact that breast cancer is usually looked at as a womans disease and not for both sexes

 

Do men have breasts ? if not then i dont think it is breast cancer is it ? Maybe its pectoral cancer .

 

People assume that breasts are those big "fun bags" on women. In reality everyone has breasts. Pectorals = Breasts or mammary.

Men and woman have breasts. Just about anything that you will find in a female breast will be found in a male breast, but some of the components will be undeveloped in the male. Neither men, prepubescent boys nor pubescent males expect to see any breast development on their bodies, unless they put on a lot of fatty deposits or they build up some fantastic "pecs" in the weight room. How many doctors would say men have breasts? EVERYONE with a M.D. next to them would tell you that. Why deny this fact? The general populace of course wouldn't equate breasts with both men and women. Know why? It's because the general public is fundamentally ignorant of the human anatomy, let alone the names. It's only natural. But take a course on it in a college educate level or even an AP Science course on Anatomy and even professors and teachers would agree with me.

As for the general public, we associate things (ignorantly) based on misconceptions on sex. So of course when overweight men develop over-sized breast we refer to them as "man boobs". But in reality, it's simply breast with excess fatty tissue. The same with women. You can't dispute that. Tell me, why do some women have small breasts or practically flat-chested at all?
