Jackson, Mississippi (CNN) -- On a recent Sunday morning just before dawn, two carloads of white teenagers drove to Jackson, Mississippi, on what the county district attorney says was a mission of hate: to find and hurt a black person.
In a parking lot on the western side of town they found their victim.
James Craig Anderson, a 49-year-old auto plant worker, was standing in a parking lot, near his car. The teens allegedly beat Anderson repeatedly, yelled racial epithets, including "White Power!" according to witnesses.
Hinds County District Attorney Robert Shuler Smith says a group of the teens then climbed into their large Ford F250 green pickup truck, floored the gas, and drove the truck right over Anderson, killing him instantly.
Mississippi officials say it was a racially motivated murder. What the gang of teens did not know was that a surveillance camera was focused on the parking lot that night, and many of the events, including the actual murder of Anderson, were captured live on videotape.

This happened in June and we're just how hearing about this? And stop historicizing white racism like there was some magical day when all whites woke up with lifelong attitudes of fairness and dignity towards black people.

I just heard about this. This is the type of stuff that makes me really, really angry.

 

It also makes me feel puzzled and hopeless. How does an 18 year old kid get to be that filled with hate that murdering someone over race, religion, perceived gender or orientation makes any sense at all? And how do they get to be so stupid as to think they'll get away scot free in this day and age?

 

Now this is disgusting. But we can only pray for the victim and his family. As well as the offenders and hope and pray that they can free their young souls from the grip of hatred and bigotry as well that the justice system gives them lengthy sentences that fully punishes them for their heinous and thoughtless crime. If ya ask me they deserve death. Thats what would have happened under gods law. This should not have happened! Period!

 

Yeah, puzzled and hopeless is a good description of how I feel also. It it would have been older men, that would still be bad but; kids this age is very disturbing. You wonder what they're parents are teaching them or were they learn this stuff from.

I remember a few years ago, my mother told me about a group of Black teens in my home town, who killed this White man riding his bike in the neighborhood. They said they did it because they were bored. I thought that was crazy and, wonder how they'd been raised.

The scary thing about this recent story is, that could have been me. Stuff like this makes me want to purchase a gun.

 

Killing someone out of boredom? I just....I end up speechless, bemused and depressed. I don't understand how kids that young end up so completely fucked up. I won't blame it on parenting alone - some of the kids that do this stuff turn out to have decent, caring parents. I just don't get it.

I understand what you're saying about the gun, and not to minimize, but to empathize, I think women in general feel a little bit of that when they're out alone at night in the city.

 

I think they should have guns and, know how to use them if they need to.

I want them to suffer like they made James Anderson suffer. They need to be executed. Do not pass go. No bullshit sob story excuses, no "suddenly finding God", they get one last meal and it's lights out. Bye!
