Damn I have such a love/hate for you based on that statement. I love that you're a gun advocate but don't like how you just went at DB. You aware of her history?

I didn't intend to or "go" at her. No I don't know "her history".
It was a general statement. That mentality is very common, and as I have always stated, the day criminals put their guns down, is the day I GLADLY do. Her thinking is why criminals have the edge. They will never abide by her declaration that they "have no freakin' business carrying one around."

Well, chances are, if it's me versus some nutjob with a gun, even if I have a gun, it's just going to escalate the situation. I could never kill another human being, so if it has to be me, then it has to be me.

    I see.

I appreciate that, MF. But I'm not offended. She doesn't know my history, and that's OK.

OK, but in general, I don't associate with people or in areas where I'd have to worry about running into someone who would consider me a good target. As I said before, even if I did have a gun, and I was faced with someone else who did- look, I'm not going to kill another human being...so if it has to be me, then it has to be me, cause I sure as fuck am not pulling the trigger.

I also believe that there are some serious issues with gun laws. I've said before on this forum that every gun needs to be collected and refitted to only go off if it's in the hand of someone who has the matching computer chip. Otherwise, it locks up. So, if you want a gun, you have to go through several different forms of psychological evaluations, and be willing to have a GPS/gun chip combo implanted into your hand with all of your codes and information on it, and that chip will be the only thing that makes that gun go off. If you are caught without a coded and chipped weapon, it's an instant 18 months in jail. If you are denied a gun by the psych battery, then you can't reapply for ten years. And, I think if you want a gun so badly, your taxes and insurances should be doubled.

Then, if you still want a weapon, go ahead and get one.

The only way I could *ever* have pulled the trigger would be to protect my son, period. If I had a gun, it would increase the risk to me, because it's likely it could be taken away from me.

    Some history:

I was held at knifepoint on the subway a few years ago by a guy who was using me as a shield. Scary, but harm done only to my nerves.

My house was robbed while I was home asleep when I lived in Los Angeles. I'm glad I didn't wake up, because who knows what would have happened.

I was also raped at 14, but because the guy was 6'6" no weapons needed to be involved. I did end up with some bruising, etc, but nothing permanent.

I still don't like guns. I understand why some people do. I have a good friend who owns a gunshop.

And to whoever said Colorado was a peaceful bastion of hippiedom? You couldnt be more wrong. One word - Littleton. There are tons of guns out here, more than I ever saw in Boston or Los Angeles.

Rarely have I heard or read a story about a taxpayer with a gun getting the drop on a violent criminal. If you're going up against someone who's been hardened by the system, it doesn't matter if you're strapped. Yes your odds are better, but they'll probably kill your office cubicle fattened ass anyway.

I find people who feel that they NEED a gun to defend themselves are simply shortsighted and weak.

I think it depends on where you live and if you probably have a family, so if you are living in a dangerous neighbourhood then you should have a gun cus they sure would come in handy if your family is being attacked:cool:

I don't have a problem with *being* dead. I'd just prefer a more peaceful exit.

I'm mainly referring to those who are "gun-nuts" and think even college students should be allowed to carry a gun around. If you want to defend yourself, then learn some Close-Quarter techniques and maybe take up kickboxing or Systema or Krav Maga in case they are too close to use a firearm. That way, at least you'll remember that you're also a weapon.

The reason why I was the victim of a violent crime is because I didn't have a gun.

An easy and straight forward answer that requires no sociological imagination.

Despite this economic catastrophe, crime is actually declining in America.

I'm uncomfortable with the idea of gun ownership as a right, and I don't believe that the constitution gives the private citizen that right either. We don't need a militia nowadays to protect us from potential invaders on American soil. Perhaps, if this was the case, I might change my view.

It's hard to understand the psychology behind someone who values animal life so much, and yet seems to be so willing to take life over assets. Equally as disturbing are those who think that the key to crime reduction is to arm everyone, that's incredulous. The idea of people owning assault weapons, and artillery is ludicrous, IMO.

It would seem that if criminals suspected more people were armed, they would kill even more people to avoid danger to themselves. I would venture to say that most gun owners have seldom fired a weapon and aren't prepared to use the weapon, if they should attempt to use it. The danger is more to other family members or small children who might find often improperly stored and locked guns. Otherwise, guns are stolen by criminals and the legally purchased weapon now becomes another gun in the hands of criminals.

I'm like DB in that I try to avoid places so bad that I think I might be injured or places where I need to worry about my safety. You don't have to put yourself in unnecessary situations, whether that's waiting for a train at 2 in the morning or visiting any social establishment that might be a bit seedy.

I think that I'll take my chances and call the the nutty police if I need assistance, rather than worry about the un-likelyhood of encountering nuts on the streets or in my home.

I am not an avid hunter or a crazy gun fanatic. I am certainly not weak or a scary cat. I have played very physical competitive sport in college and charged directly at 6’8, 310 lbs nutin but testosterone driven overfed muscular Texan grade 1 beef athletes. Tho I am not as strong as I was during my college days and have lost lots of muscle mass +strength and look like a tall fit thin fucker who should enroll in underground fight clubs. These days I am a semi gentle giant & have zero desire in fighting anyone verbally or physically. I’ve been in lots of life battles & tired of fighting…. I am not interested in rolling my sleeves to fist fightin' someone or breaking sweat to karate drop Joe Schmoe but that does not mean I am a carpet and let any criminal or whoever walk all over me. I don’t fuck with anyone, so don’t fuck with me. If a criminal wants to pull a gun at me and wants my wallet, I will assess the situation and comply. But for split second if I can see an opportunity to drop him, then I will do it. I will NOT hesitate in self defense to put you out. I will shoot to kill and will blow your fucken brain without any reservation and the best part is I will sleep like a baby the same exact night.

Today, my coworker crush did something nice for me. All because I have this insane OCD thing.

One of the ways into my building has 2 doors. The outer door, then a small room with a unisex bathroom off to the side and then the door leading into the office area. Needless to say, thanks to the bathroom and my not knowing how many of the people who use said bathroom really wash their hands, I don't like to touch the doorknob of that second door.

When I'm by myself, I'll use a paper towel from the bathroom or kleenex to open the door. If I'm with my coworker crush (he knows about my aversion to that door and he feels the same way), I'll do the same thing. However, if I'm with a group of people and I have no other option but open that second door, then I get frustrated, and then have to wash my hands afterward.

That's a long explanation so I could explain the nice thing he did. LOL. Anyway, we all went out as a group to lunch and it so happens that I was going to be that second person (which means I would have to open that inner door) and he knows my aversion to that, so he "took the bullet" and opened the door for me.

I sent him an email thanking him and he said: I know how much you hate that door and I almost slowed down to see what you would do. LOL.

Anyway, it was nice of him to do that. I know, I have a serious OCD issue.
