You and I are definitely in agreement on the Twilight franchise. It boggles my mind how adult women are so taken with that series. It tells young girls that you don't need a personality for the hottest guy in school to love you. Nor do you need to have a backbone and guys will fall all over you.

    It boggles the mind.

I agree with most of this. Her acting during that torture scene in the first part was spot on. It truly was...but then I flash back to the scene where she's showing how mad she is at Ron when he comes back and I see that as fairly poor acting. LOL.

The three of them definitely have a special bond that you don't see all the time. They help each other out any way they possibly can. It's good that JK showed that girls can be smart, pretty, and don't take shit from anyone. I mean, Hermione always stood up for herself (unlike a certain Twilight "heroine" who shall go nameless). I love that about her character. She knows what she wants and works out how to get it. But she was also vulnerable.

I will be seeing it again this weekend (when I meet Draco Malfoy) and likely seeing it at least once more. I'm sure with more viewings, I'll like it more, but I still won't think it's the best of the series.

One other critique just popped in my head. Why are all those wizard born kids in awe of magic everytime they see it done. All I could think of when I saw Harry's son get on the train was why are you so impressed with chocolate frogs on the window your dad is fricking Harry Potter and you grew up with wizards. For Harry I got it or even Hermione but the wizard born kids trip me out.

I just saw it yesterday and I gotta' say my hat is off to everyone involved in every aspect of the mediums it has crossed from book to the big screen. I'll admit I never finished reading the book series but I have always enjoyed the movies. I must say that Harry Potter is a good example of what life really is. I mean, life is pretty much nothing without friends, family or at least someone to share it with. I noticed at least from the movies and from a couple of the books that I have read that it seems Harry is nothing without friends, as almost equally his friends are nothing without Harry. It's like an awesome cycle of love and friendship that helps define the other and propel the other forward. Even when Harry was in the arms of Hagrid and thought dead, it was from the actions of Harry leading up to that moment that caused Nevelle and the others to be stirred to action themselves, even in his absence. Harry Potter himself also stands for hope and his friends seem to stand for fate. When they come together they are able to fulfill the prophecies once spoken over Harry. It's such good meaty stuff, I don't get how anyone could not like it!

Anyway, I could go on and on. It was great and I definitely wouldn't be opposed to J.K. Rowling doing more within the world of Harry Potter if it is as good as the first set of stories. Especially if they are successful enough to be made into a good quality movies.

Very true. That was a big mistake by the screenwriter(s)/director. Good catch!

This is exactly JK Rowling's whole point. Voldemort didn't trust anyone. He had no really close allies. He did ultimately trust a few people with his horcruxes (Malfoy and Bellatrix) but I don't believe he ever told them how truly valuable those pieces were, because he didn't want anyone else to know.

So he is ultimately vanquished because he doesn't know love or trust. Whereas Harry knows it's a "we're all in this together" type of thing and that he's incapable of doing it all on his own. But he trusts in people and knows that they will do what they need to do.

Which book is your favorite in the series? Which movie is your favorite? What makes those particular ones stand out for you?

My favorite book and movie is Goblet of Fire. Why? Because it's exciting and it's the first of the complex books. And the ending when Voldemort gets reborn (especially in the movie) is fantastic. I think they truly did justice to that scene in the movie. I love Ralph as Voldemort and the whole Priori Incantatem scene - I tear up every time.

That's the book that finally gets the whole story moving.

And I loved the introduction of the other schools and the tasks.

I also loved The Half-Blood Prince movie. I loved Slughorn more in the movie than in the book. I love his story about the lily turning into a fish at the end. Fantastic scene. I tear up every time. And of course, it focuses more on Draco which can never be a bad thing in my book. ;-)

For book I would say the Prisoner of Azkaban it introduced me to the literary world of Harry Potter since I saw the first two films with family.
And the patronus charm is pretty damn cool.

As far as films the last one was amazing. I can't rave about it enough and this is lame but I really connected with characters on this one. They moved far beyond being kids with magic wands on this one

Just saw the movie and loved it. Possibly my favoirte movie.

Favorite book is Prisoner as it introduces Sirius who is my favorite character, was disappointed in the fact Gary Oldman was cast to play him. Just not how I pictured Sirius.

The timeline of the books: 1998 plus 7 years plus 19 years. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I remember the first film and the late Richard Harris did not want to belong to a movie series until his granddaughter played hardball. He relented.

The first book was published in 1997 or 1998 or both? I don't remember. But the timeline for the actual story starts in 1991 and goes through 1998.

Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger were all born in 1980.

What made Sirius your favorite character? Just curious.

Also, what did you envision his character to look like?

I was disappointed by the casting of Lupin. I didn't expect him to look that way at all. I envisioned him cuter. LOL.

Thank bookworm I was thinking of 1988 but I have not read most of those books. Just incorrect by three years.

Because, It have always loved bad boys...not good I know and am rectifying it.

Colin Farrell would have been my pick for Sirius, and has a similiar accent to the Brits. I envisioned Sirius to be WAY cuter.

Did you know that JK only would sell the rights if they used UK actors?

Oh, Colin Farrell would have been great!

I can see why she'd have that clause. I mean, how many great British actors are there, and sometimes Hollywood hires Americans to play English, which is ridiculous.
