lippy just got done buying my son adidas sandals...adidas basketball shoes and 2 pair of puma...i generally buy what he likes and interestingly enough he picked out all adidas athletic shorts and pants...

i agree he has served his time and i'm glad to see him back playing the game...getting an endorsement from nike is enough to take my money elsewhere...there are too many other very talented more deserving athletes that nike could have selected for an endorsement...bad choice

    Tell Nike: Dump Michael Vick

Michael Vick is in the news again. After almost four years, Nike has again signed Michael Vick to a lucrative endorsement deal. How does that make you feel?

As an American I am ashamed to admit the culture of celebrity-worship in this country is growing. I understand sports are a big thing to a lot of people. Sports stars are paid an inordinate amount of money to play games. Children and grown-ups alike are awed by them, admire and worship them and pay good money to watch them play those games. What’s wrong with this picture?
Vick’s history with dog fighting is well known. In 2007 he pleaded guilty to racketeering charges for bankrolling his infamous Bad Newz Kennels. Because he pled guilty to those charges he served no time for animal cruelty due to his actual participation in the beating, drowning and electrocution of under-performing pit bull dogs. He served 18 months of a 23 month sentence and shortly thereafter was welcomed back into the NFL (National Football League) when he signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as a third string quarterback in August, 2009.
Over the past couple of years Vick continues to be in the news. In December, 2009 The Philadelphia Eagles players voted Vick the recipient of the Ed Block Courage Award. Call me callous, but I still think that was a public relations ploy put in place by the Eagles’ administration. Recently Vick received the BET (Black Entertainment Television) Award for SubwaySportsman of the Year. Many were not pleased. Here is a Care2 petition asking BET to retract the award.
Sure, he has worked with the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) in their End Dogfighting Campaign by talking with kids at schools about the evils of dog fighting. Many animal advocates were horrified by the teaming of an organization like HSUS — that speaks out against the depraved dog fighting culture — with one of that culture’s most well known participants. Have Vick’s efforts convinced any children to avoid the dog fighting life? Who knows for sure?
The Philadelphia Inquirer quoted Nike spokesman Derek Kent. “We have re-signed Michael Vick as a Nike athlete, Michael acknowledges his past mistakes. We do not condone those actions, but we support the positive changes he has made to better himself off the field.”
Let’s face it; money talks. And professional football is all about the money. But isn’t a dog’s life more important than money?
If you are appalled by Nike’s endorsement of Michael Vick consider letting your feelings be known.Sign the Care2 petition. But more importantly, pledge to boycott Nike until they dump Vick. There is a Facebook campaign going to boycott Nike.
A comment on that Facebook page by Donna Orsinski-Meanquale sums up the feelings of many animal lovers: “I would walk barefoot in the heat of the day before I would ever put shoes on that Michael Vick promoted! He is a worthless human being!”

I said that such remarks (tap dancing and drooling) was an instance of sellout rhetoric and equating unapologetic attraction with subservience. I also said that your claims about anti-black women threads are often erroneous. I can't hit that nail on that head any harder.

I'm not arguing over the term "broads", only that they get “their ass kissed”. That should have been clear with me refuting that claim the first time.

I don't know what part of my post encompasses point 3. Everything after the ass-kissing issue was a recap or a new point of discussion and didn't argue against points you made, real or otherwise. So much for your strawman.

As far as kissing ass goes, if the ladies had a dime for every time I kissed their ass, FG would have about twenty cents, and them other "broads" not a dime.

Your contribution to this board is evident, this debacle is par for the course as it were.

I look at it moreso as personal freedom to choose. I would even say that applies to the Falcons as well. Would your employer take you back after a felony conviction and a year plus absence?

Only the courts did the punishing.

Lippy- You can spend your money wherever your Rocky mountain heart desire, lol, but you know Vick has paid his dues. The fucker was in lock down for 2 yrs, lost his starting job @ ATL, lost so much money and opportunity. He is working hard to change his life around. Last I checked America is all about 2nd chance.

I agree with that. Let the man earn a living.

Is is supposed to "pay" the rest of his life?? If he was doing something criminal after he was in prison I could see people up in arms.

I think protesting and boycotting are overkill so long as someone has served their time.

However, how can I say someone shouldn't choose not to spend their money where they dont want to? Despite a felon actually serving their time, some crimes are worse than others and effect people differently. I think some of you would give a second thought to buying a product he gets paid to endorse if he committed a crime more dear to your heart. Just as you possibly wouldn't spend money at the local ice cream shop if the owner was a convicted but now free sex offender.

And again, despite particular individuals not buying the products he endorses, hes a free man. And hes a free man earning a good living in the NFL. I keep hearing "let him earn a living" but no one is trying to take that away, as far as non boycotters are concerned.

I personally could care less about Vick one way or another but I think his critics who wont give him money are being misrepresented here.

    FREE RON MEXICO,
    FREE RON MEXICO, lol.

With all jokes aside, the man has served his time. C'mon folks, we all know that America has treated blacks a lot less than dogs. In fact, there are ppl out there who still value dogs lives more than blacks. I am not a huge animal lover per se, but I like them even tho I have been attacked by a dog to the point I had to visit an ER for stitches but I still like them.

Anyhoo, I diagress, Vick has been incarcerated like for 2 years, he has paid his time & his dime, to me he is a rehabilitated citizen.

Yeah, I've heard that. I think it was a Fox news commentator or a preacher who appears on that show who said that. He is a dumb fuck for saying that. We let ppl walk of murder all the time but we want to give the chair for a guy who was associated with dog fighting. Heck, we let OJ, Robert Blake and Casey Anthony walk scot free but we want to hang Vick, smdh.

calm down fellas...lippy is all for vick playing football and making money with his talent...i just don't happen to think that nike should be offering him an endorsement deal for mega bucks...there are plenty of other talented athletes that nike could have chosen...

    ;)

Yep, that shit pisses me off as well. Especially because the shows who give those people air time wont call their misguided hate what it really is. Instead they simply "dissagree" :smt105

I try to not let my negative reaction to racist folks like that shoot me off to the opposite end of the spectrum, where my opinion on something like Vicks issue wouldn't lie otherwise.

But its the TV shows and their hosts that REALLY piss me off. In their attempts to be "fair" to varying opinions.

that statement is not advice that was a personal attack thank you. read below. when I gave a rebuttal she got mad. her anger came from the fact she mad a bad statement from the JLO thread. she stated you can tell marc anthony messed up by the video she posted and i replied (in essence) you cant say that. when it came out that JHO I mean JLo allegedly fucked around then she wanted to get even. thats all to it. she brought it and I brought it back. now if she was just giving advice I didnt see it. not by this statement. also people were talking about C/S not being enough. I didnt argue that. I also added the other side from men....getting a hard time about seeing the kids. that is when she made this statement. get facts str8

for the record.....she ended up getting arrested for forging my name. It took an act of G-d to get the police to go after her. they stated "we really dont go after the wives because its domestic issue but because she is an ex we will get her"

In the meantime they went after a dude who snooped on his wife's email and called it hacking under federal law.

They are married and Im divorced. He is black and Im black. what do you think is going on ?

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technolo...-years-in-jail-after-hacking-wifes-email.html

MEN, not just black men, in general it the shaft when it comes to the courts. You can say ouch and the justice system will be on a mans ass in 2 seconds.

TW didnt have a chance because he fucked up BIG TIME

When it first came out he was re-hired by Nike, majority bloggers said the same thing.
Fact: Women in general are the purchases of sports jerseys and memorabilia relating to sports...for their husbands and sons. So time will tell how Nike fare financially in response.

Damn that sucks but I'm not gonna sit here and feel bad that a millionaire can't make more money he really doesn't need. His salary is far more than most people will see in a lifetime. Just kind of sucks how fragile ones image is.
