My mother has dark skin. She wasn't having any of that. LOL. That was the first and last meeting I attended.

Slow my roll? Lmao. Because I'm questioning your non-factual, subjective INSISTENCE that bi-racial children look Black, period? Maybe in your world, you can speak on your experience, but then, so can I. You being born and raised in NYC, and being taught to "look" for it, is not the be all and end all of becoming a self-proclaimed "expert" on the appearances of mixed heritage children, my friend. Is NYC the mecca of mixed kids or something?? I have travelled to 5 continents and I wouldn't dare to even begin to suggest that children of mixed parents LOOK BLACK. Even having seen many many many and met many in my life and travels, I STILL respect the knowledge that I haven't been exposed to a minutia of bi-racial people on this planet.

Again, I'll ask since you didn't answer...how can YOU TELL who is actually 'bi-racial" when there's a 50/50 chance their features will look either (or more) Black or White, or Asian or Black, or Asian or White, etc...Do you wear a tin foil hat with a radar or something?? School me, oh great one.

    1. I was speaking in regards to people who were of black and white parentage.

    2. When you're entire life is revolved around race the way black people are its complete self education. There is no classroom with charts or a teacher explaining it to you but its learned through life.

    3. White people aren't as exposed to it since its been well established that when someone is of a mixed family they are far more accepted in a black area than they will be by a white. Just plain fact. Another reason why so many of them identify with being black.

    4. And here's some hard science for you. Brown eyes and dark skin are more dominant features when mixing kids which explains why the vast majority of black/white kids have a skin complextion closer to the black parent and usually have brown eyes.

    5. If bi-racial kids were so racially ambigous then this conversation wouldn't be necessary. They'd all be white or you'd have far more Wentworth Miller dudes in family pictures with a Mrs. Brady and Dr Huxtable but more than likely they end up looking Lenny Kravitz or Lisa Bonet.

Dude everything about the black community makes it easy to infer biracial kids are more accepted by blacks than whites. The history of colorism in this country makes it easy to see. The lighter you are in black community the better is, the darker you are in the white community the worst it is for you. Do you disagree with this?

lippy worked with the "i'm not black girl today" i wanted to get her thoughts/feelings on why she is so adament about telling people that she is not black but rather bi-racial

this is what she told me...her dad is black and her mother is white...she said that growing up it bothered her not looking like her mom...everywhere they went there was always a question or inquisitive look from strangers...people asked if her mom was babysitting or if the little brown girl was adopted...

i think we talk alot about how ww feel when people ask stupid questions...stare...etc

do we know or our we preparing our children? as i read through this thread i see both sides...the bm that have children with ww or aw and how they view the situation...the thing is that the bm probably doesn't realize that the child strongly identifys and/or sees him or herself in the father...now i don't know but it dawned on me that a little girl might wonder why she doesn't look more like her mom...take notes all through her life until she ends up with this enormous chip on her should as she grows up explaining her ethnicity to anyone that will listen...

just thought i would pass that on...it's hard to know unless you are walking in that person's shoes...

LOL at brown eyes and dark skin being more dominant. Ok yeah brown eyes are dominant but last time I checked brown eyes was the common eye color among every single race on this earth. If a blue eyed African American and brown eyed caucasian make a baby their is much greater chance of the baby being brown eyed. It has nothing at all to do with race. Blue eyes is genetic mutation that occurred in Eurasia. All those with blue eyes (from gene) share a common ancestor. You get blue eyes when the two people both have blue recessive gene and both were passed to kid. Blue and Green eyed people make up a very small population of this world. So what exactly does that have to do with race?

Dark skin dominant, seriously did someone just say that. If dark skin was dominant then a person with dark skin wouldn't be have beige kids with white people. Dominant means the strength isn't weaken. If your getting beige then with out a doubt it's weaken don't u think lol. If Dark skin was dominant most all AA's would have dark skin and you certainly wouldn't see the many shades you see at the rate u see them what you would see is white AA's (and were not talking about albinism) were talking about just like brown eyed AA's give birth to blue eyed and green eyed children 2 dark AA's would be producing white children literally. But if you took the time to look up how skin color works you will find that a persons skin color has everything to do with their parents skin color genes. Half a child's gene is producing alot of melanin where their parents full gene is producing alot. The other half of the child's gene is producing very little melanin where their parents full gene is only producing a little. And then it comes a little more complex than that b/c while you carry several genes causing your skin color your child will only get some of them. Some may have less melanin or more meaning your half of your child will not have your same balance thus the reason why parents of mixed kids can produce children of different skin tones.

More accepted? You call telling someone who identifies as black and white, black and Asian, black and native American, black and Latino that they are ONLY black ACCEPTANCE????????

You call getting picked at b/c a person has lighter skin tone (as in too white, etc), combination hair, non black culture, non black parents, ACCEPTANCE??????

Just b/c the AA with prejudice don't hold enough power in the US as a race to oppress a person b/c they are mixed race (could have sworn I've heard of this very thing happening in countires that do) that they ACCEPT. It just means unlike the white race they are not getting oppressed by African Americans.

Colorism wouldn't exist if their was complete ACCEPTANCE, but there is not.

Darker UM no. It's 2011 Darker skinned white Americans are the in, it's the pale ones that catch hell. Why you think folks stay up in a tanning bed. They aint giving themselves cancer b/c they are gonna get treated worse. I walk past white everyday that darker than my kids.

I think maybe you should consider reading your own words and following your own advise. You claim being black makes you know more than someone who is white. Ok so consider this, wouldn't someone who is mixed know and understand mixed more than you would understand mixed? But yet when someone who is mixed tries to say that being black and being mixed with black are different what r u then saying?

I really try to refrain from talking to your country ass but since you want to push it.

When you aren't white the lighter you are the easier it is amongst whites and amongst non whites look at any caste or color system through out the entire world.

While lighter skin kids might get picked on so do dark skinned and brown skins. Its called childhood but once you get older that light skin is appreciated a lot more amongst blacks especially when you see how people are treated based on race.
Young black women are notorius for saying they want light skinned babies with light eyes and good hair.

You sounnd dumber with every post give it up hill billy you embarass yourself

Is country suppose to be an insult? That's a compliment for me.

I think I mentioned that caste system in this very post.

Your absolutely right dark skin does get picked on although I've never heard that about brown skin alteast not for their brown skin. Although wrong it's still not the same as being picked on for being of another racial group or looking like you are.
All true but exactly again what does that have to do with acceptance of mixed race people?

Your calling me dumb while calling me racist epithet and your on on a site for white women and black men.

Entries from that source are no better than Wiki entries. The fact that someone chooses to consider it a racial slur doesn't make it one. I have always thought of a hillbilly as someone who's uncouth or unsophisticated. I think that most dictionaries would support that contention as well, along with it being a reference to people of Appalachian origin.

Of course she took that as a racist remark. Since when has the term hillbilly meant anything other than back water ignorant people.
    Smh.

Because it normally is. Conservatives usually set the tone for racial climate. They're the ones who are quick to discriminate based on race gender and class.

Dude you don't even know me well enough to come at me with nonsense. In country that has actually legistated systematic racism for over 350 years and in only three decades have decided to treat non whites like fucking human beings. Conservatives who are the embodiment of the current Republican party are always the ones who push for social and fiscal change that benefits the very few and hurts the many especially minorities. When I call someone like Michelle Bachman and Sarah Palin and Mit Romney racist I mean it and can definitely back it up. They are callous and out of touch and have some how dooped the American populus(the Republicans anyway) into believing they care and they don't.
The party of deregulation and free market capitalism is the main reason we're in the economic mess we're in.
The party refuses to work with anyone unless they're in charge is hurting this country.
The party who only creates road blocks but NEVER presents solutions to problems are killing this country.

Agreed, and as a feminist I'll also note that women are also still not equal either. Nor are LGBT folks. We've still got a long way to go in this country to have equality for everyone.

hey MRF.....i am a hillbilly ( IMO it means people who are from the hills) KY, TN, VA....and yes ignorance is rampid here....but i don't consider the term racist..it is what it is...redneck may be considered more derogatory....and i have never heard the term "back water" ... here it is termed "back woods"...still not considered insulting imo.....sometimes certain people look for reasons to disagree.....

It is is a racial slur. Hillbilly was offensive negative term created to insult the Scot Irish people that populated the Appalachian mountains. Remember way back when Celts were not considered whites. They were seen as uncouth, nasty, their culture and ways were frowned upon by the upper class British. Scots Irish were actually oppressed at one point in the US. They were forced to pay higher taxes for one. Anyway so yeah Hillbilly is used today to describe some of lower class whites it's like saying whtie trash. However although not applied to ethnic origins today and only racial origins it's still originated as ethnic slur. Hillbilly, white trash, redneck are like calling a black person Ghetto. They are all racial slurs. And hillbilly and redneck were both ethnic slurs towards Scot Irish people.
