Why does it have to be discussed? Just go out and date and have fun. If they have a problem with it then they aren't your real friends.

Have to be discussed? It doesn't. I don't think it's weird that a girl likes to talk about her romantic life. I am dating, and I am having fun -- and I like talking to people about dating and having fun. That really doesn't seem unusual to me.

    Hello B and welcome :)

I agree with you - us girls love to chatter about boys and dating! Much to the horror of males, us females LOVE to talk about them haha!!!

    So I do understand.

That said, in my current job I work with a bunch of girls, we share an office and were gossiping on Monday about our weekends, and it came out that a few of us had met some attractive boys on the weekend ... so as girls will do we were asking each other questions about the boys and I had no shame in saying the guy I saw on Saturday night was British-Nigerian. To be honest, my swooning over Idris Elba after every episode of Luther kind of gives me away... And imo I dont give a toss. I am proud of who I find attractive (except for one or two losers in my past haha) and if anyone were to judge me for it, I could care less.

The same as if I was gay I would be proud to say I have a girlfriend. I dont have time for people who are going to look at me different on the basis of who I date.....

Thanks! I'm glad to be here.

I'm not hiding my preferences in shame or anything, if that's what you thought I meant. My boyfriend picks me up from work every day (I still don't know how to drive ) and he's very dark, it would be kind of hard not to notice me walking out with him every day.

But it's not like I only want to talk about the fact that my boyfriend happens to be black or something. I like to talk about sex stuff, and romantic stuff, and dirty stuff of all kinds. Almost all my friends so far I'd describe as "work friends," and intimiate discussions just aren't something that's appropriate, at least yet.

You're the one who said it wasn't a big taboo back home which lead me to believe that you were worried it be in St. Louis with your new friend. Maybe I misunderstood

No, it's not the black part that's the problem. It's the "This is professional environment and I don't know these people well enough to talk about sex and romance" part. Sorry if that was confusing. My boyfriend picks me up from work every day and I walk out holding hands with him most of the time.

Oh ok. Well I love a fellow new yorker on the forum. I'm curious are you Jewish? Since most of the white people I know from BK are.

No, I'm from the slope, which is more Italian than anything. I'm part Italian, part French, part German, part every European country, I think.

The references to New York weren't supposed to suggest that Saint Louis is worse, or anything. Maybe it is, but I haven't seen it. The point was that I grew up in a place where interracial relations were far too common for people to get mad about them. If you live in Brooklyn and hate interracial relationships, you're going to be a very depressed person all the time.

I'm not attracted to black men because it's taboo or because my daddy forbid it or anything like that. I grew up in a place where it pretty much wasn't taboo and in a house where my dad is completely accepting of my love life. Instead, I tend to prefer black men because I like their confidence and I like the way they treat me. That's what I was trying to get across.
