The day that LeBron joined Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh marked the biggest day for the NBA in the last decade. For the NBA fans: Where were you on this day? What was your first reaction when LeBron decided to"take his talents to South Beach?" How do you feel LeBron James now?
I was actually shocked when he announced that he was taking his talents to south beach. I though conspiracy as soon as it sunk in, but for the entire NBA it was great. It made for great tv, and the season lived up to the hype. Race has a part to play in the reaction, but his boys did him no favors in the way they did PR. It was great for the league.... Too bad they gonna be locked out for a while, and can not follow up this great season
I was shocked too when he announced he was going to sign with Miami;just for the mere fact that I didn't think he would leave a team via national TV. At first, I understood the backlash he recieved from the public because the way in which he executed his decision could've been better. However after witnessing the personal attacks directed at LeBron, I was convinced that it wasn't about how he left;it was about the fact that he left in the first place. Cleveland is a blue collar town that has been tortured decade after decade in the world of sports. So when their own homegrown superstar left them high and dry, I think it touched a deep nerve of insecurity. LeBron could've given Dan Gilbert an apology and a box of chocolates and it wouldn't have mattered. I also think race played a factor in the sense that the majority caucasian fanbase was less sypathetic to James, while the the majority of the black fanbase felt compelled to protect them. In the end you're right it was great for the casual NBA fans. However, I think they will lose those same fans to the lockout, but the CBA needs an overhaul anyway.
Well I'm from Miami and was a Heat fan before all the hoopla. It was pleasing that he decided to take his talents down there, but all the hype was a bit much. My boyfriend on the other hand is from Akron, OH and absolutely hates his guts. lol
I was at work, and I heard him announce it live on Sirius XM ESPN Radio. I wasn't shocked considering Chris Bosh had already signed with the Miami Heat. I'm happy he didn't win a ring this year.
