It showed a lack of confidence in the relationship. None of us have a clue how she felt about him in the first place but, this probably didn't help.

That dumbfounded look on his face is priceless.

not necessarily, her father was shady enough to keep the ring and she lied about it...maybe they were glad to get free stuff but not be attacked like miss ireland. he gave her and her family stuff with that proposal, so maybe he was trying to be romantic...
