think we need to mount an investigation into this one..... when you look back at how this country gained independence from britain tho, it makes you think either the colonials were strategic geniuses, or the British expeditionary forces were that bad and overrated. /derail (i love military theory)
The British expeditionary forces were that bad. The colonists where backed by France and also Francis Marion Guerrilla Warfare. The patriots navy was a joke and the Soldier's where not professional Soldiers they were no match for the British Navy or the British Army on equal footing. . BUT....the long voyage to the America's was taxing and brutal, and the British was not ready for the new style fighting tactics of Francis Marion. Hit and run, hit and run. ...ask any Recon Marine, Ranger, or SEAL and they can tell you who Francis Marion is.
i heard the name before. in my spare time, i used to research how our spec ops came into fruition. Merrill's Marauders, O'Darby, etc, etc. Like I said, i love the theory behind all of it. I still have 10 books just on military air power alone, that I need to return.
If not for the French circumvention of the British Navy and supplying materials, and military expertise... ...and Marion Britain would have crushed the colonists.
I think I found my next research topic something more in-depth than what's covered in high school history classes the french were badasses tho they've been feuding with the brits long before America was 'discovered' guess they didn't need a reason to bust guns on em
Since like 1070-something. The Brits have been getting it from the French Normans and the Saxons since the Romans left, no?
lippy is going to need to see your birth certificate dare i ask if anyone baked you a cake and was it any good?
Also the Brits were busy colonizing India, the jewel of their empire, and many Brits did not want to fight the Americans as they were basically white folks of British descent.
