My son is very light skin. I worry that he will someday meet a different kind of discrimination. And that is "Intra-racial discrimination" by blacks based on the color hue of his skin. For those of you here who have a child of interracial union (WW/BM) do you have this worry too? I know I can equip him to deal with life challenges someday, but, how do I really equip him to face discrimination from those who are half of his heritage?

You don't each him to face discrimination you teach him confidence, respect, you SHOW him strength, and courage. You teach him to be proud of who he is and what he is. You give him a foundation. Something more about who he is other than "black" or "white" You teach him his history and his culture.

Discrimination is going to happen whether its race, income, ethnicity, (etc) you want to give him the tools that will help him stand strong. I personally don't worry about this, not at all. Not for my daughter, or my two sons. Because I know they are well prepared.

My 14 year old and my 6 year old know more about black history than most adults. I make sure they understand and know who they are, what they are, and where they come from. The also speak fluent Japanese.

I did not want to have bi-racial kids who they onlything they knew about either race was mom is Japanese and dad is black. There are enough ignorant bi-racial kids already.

I used to worry about my oldest bullied. But everyone has their buttons, and after some kid pressed his.........lets say I don't worry about him being bullied anymore.

...now dating? That's some shit I worry about.

This. Just teach your child whatever you would teach him in order to prepare him for life in general. Don't sweat skin complexion.

Like others have stated you can only give him the tools such as values and knowledge through your own actions as a parent that will help instill in him an inner confidence that rises above any ignorance in this world and he will see it for what it is.

There will always be ignorant folks in this world, that is a trait of the human condition in the world we live in. We cannot control that, how we deal with it personally is what can be controlled.
