In some areas, they have become the only retailer because they drove out all the comp, big and small, so you have to go there, yet another problem.

The city of Chicago has finally given the go ahead for WalMart to open one of its stores in the down town area. WalMart is so desperate to build, they are willing to put a store that's only a ew tenths of the size of a regular location--it's an express Walmart:smt091

Truly, the excuse given by the courts are absolutely absurd. It's completely unacceptable and it delivers the wrong message for the people who dedicated their time and resources to keep a big ass company like Wal-Mart alive. The only thing we all can hope for is a new business that's more employee friendly become the anti-Wal-Mart.

rural america...where everyone drives a pickup truck...walmart is a beast driven by the poor man's dollar...the rise of walmart and the missing middle class have more to do with living in america then many people realize...

Could it be that the city is equally so desperate to revitalize its downtown?

Could it be that Walmart is shifting focus towards developing specialty stores that fits snugly within the character of downtown?

Could it be that Walmart's idea fits the needs of the city?

Could it be that the city needs to drive its transit ridership up?

Could it be that the city wishes to refocus development in its downtown so it can use its dilapidating infrastructure can be put to its optimum use?

Could it be that the city needs more tax base?

These 'could' questions arise when you wonder about the motivations. Still, you can't but be impressed on how Walmart has leveraged the needs of the consumer, "value for less" marketing gimmicks, and real time inventory system to create itself into a retail behemoth.

Thomas Jefferson said it best, that all MEN ate created equal. He didn't say anything about women.

Then again I think he owned slaves....so that doesn't help

Then do shopping at Target. That's what I'm going to do after I'm moving to greenville. But, mind you, why can't you stand the place there?

    Walmart wins against women

The writing is now on the wall... With this Supreme Court ruling the precedent has been set to dismiss a whole load of class action suits where discriminatory practices and questionable labor actions were imposed on a select group of employees. Corporations with deep pockets and experienced litigation lawyers will now be able to dissect each complaint individually and find arbitrary reasons for the unfair treatment without having to defend or even address systematic bias.

The ruling also suggests to me that companies have now been given a green light to risk questionable practices without fear of mass reprisal from within.

Divide and conquer... And the masses are taking it lying down because at least for now, their empires are safe...

We can all say it out loud now, corporate America OWNs the SC!!

First it was the Citizen's United decision allowing corporations to give unlimited campaign donations to political candidates, now this BS.

5 to 4 decision, ALL the conservative appointees voted in favor of Walmart, all the liberal appointees voted against.

When the U.S. Judicial/Executive/Legislative branches are wholly owned subsidiaries of corporate America and the Banking industry, we are witnessing the beginning of the end of the American experiment.

Walmart is predatory and destroys local businesses. Good luck trying to find a 'Made In America' label on anything sold in Sam's store.

Why is China's economy growing at 9% a year?? Walk down the aisle at your local all-american Walmart shop-a-rama.

(neo)fascism; when the interests of the government and the private sector merge.

Welcome to the REAL 3rd Reich, planting its roots right here in the good ol' HOMELAND.
