The latest game to receive a mortal blow from the Australian Classification Board.

The fighting game reboot, Mortal Kombat 9, has been refused classification (RC) by the Australian Classification Board. It also requested the retail outlet remove all references to the game - signage and display cases - as well as cancel all preorders in Australia.

Here's the official statement from Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment:

One thing I severely hate about countries like Australia is censoring video games. Are they implying that their people are incapable of distinguishing between fact or fiction?

Germany's pretty dickery on that as well. They just expect the developers to tone down the "violence"? Boggles my mind here.

It's clearly obvious that the PS3 version has more favor because of Kratos being a guest character. Sadly, he's not part of the Story Mode and that would actually make things better.

    Yes and no.

The classification board is a panel of citizens drawn from society and assessed for their professional expertise and objectiveness. They are apolitical and no classification decisions are made by any political party. They have statutory (legal) authority to make the decision

A party can then apply for leave to appeal it in court, basically. Again, going through the judiciary the decisions are not politicking. The government avoids comment on these issues as much as possible.

All countries censor and/or ban video games...why the hell is Australia being shit on in this forum???

Out of all the countries in the Western world, aside from Germany, Australia tends to take it to higher extremities.

Ok, fair enough. Although, personally I have no problem with them banning them. It still seems that DenzBenz is just looking to shit all over the UK and Aus. I mean seriously, how many threads has he started (some of which are utter crap) about us? Get the fuck over it, I say.

Maybe to you, it's not a big deal. But those who are avid gamers, they don't want to import nor have a watered down version on their shelves.

I do see a pattern with DenzBenz and his Europhobic attitude. Maybe he had a bad experience with a few women from all parts of the world.

i'm with you sin, who cares if they ban them, it's not like we need violent video games...there's enough violence in this world as it is.

denz seriously needs to get over this apparent hatred of all things (mainly uk & australian) not american...it's getting old

Oh I understand this completely. I don't qualify as a gamer, but I love video games. And in all honesty I'm not happy with all the censorship that exists (not just in Australia)...BUT...my real problem here is with DenzBenz being an pain in the ass.

These threads are just to anger people, if he had any intelligence at all he'd simply start a thread on censorship in the gaming world, in general. At least there we could have a good discussion without being assholes to one or two countries.

I never knew you love video games. What sort of games do you play? I'm pretty versatile and not really part of that "Call of Duty hurr hurr" mindset. I play a wide range.

I use to be a huge fan of the oldies like Wolfenstein (and am dying to play the new one), doom, quake, duke nukem, I'm a sims gal too. But I love those first person shoot 'em ups. Haven't been able to play for a while now, but I'm getting a 3 week break starting next week so I hope to be able to be lazy and play some of my favourites while I can. :D AND see if I can wrangle some new ones. Because I'll be getting a new computer. Yay!

I'd love to play WoW, but think it'd be like a drug for me. :smt005 So I'm staying away from that.

EDIT: And I like to visit friends who have game consols (I'm a PC gal) and play anything they've got. I'll give anything a go.

OH! And some of the classics like donkey kong and space quest and hero quest. Oh my...I miss them. LOL

It's always beneficial to acquire some emulators from the NES, N64, Genesis, SNES heydays! :)

alot of games get banned in germany aswell, the only game to get banned here then released later on cut was manhunt 2 back in 2007, they was gonna do a recall of manhunt 1 way back due to some murder which the parents believed influenced a child to kill their son, but the damned for the game started to rise after that

i play games all time every day and keep up with news everyday, lots games out this year i want haha
