The Dutch government said it would start banning tourists from buying cannabis from "coffee shops" and impose restrictions on Dutch customers by the end of the year. The Netherlands is well known for having one of Europe's most liberal soft drug policies that has made its cannabis shops a popular tourist attraction, particularly in Amsterdam.

Backed by the far-right party of anti-immigrant politician Geert Wilders, the coalition government that came into power last year announced plans to curb drug tourism as part of a nationwide program to promote health and fight crime.

"In order to tackle the nuisance and criminality associated with coffee shops and drug trafficking, the open-door policy of coffee shops will end," the Dutch health and justice ministers wrote in a letter to the country's parliament...Under the new rules, only Dutch residents will be able to sign up as members of cannabis shops. Dutch customers will have to sign up for at least a year's membership and each shop would be expected to have only up to 1,500 members, a justice ministry spokesman said.

    Duuuuuuuummmmmbbbbbb.

It really is disappointing to hear they're doing that but ohhhh well.

That's why I just hit up the coffee shops in LA.

Don't waste your time flying to the Netherlands just to get that good good when you can come here and do the same thing.

What type of foolishness is this??!! I do not smoke cannibis or eat those space cakes. It is part of the culture and to forbid it means the Netherlands is caving in to prudish countries of the EU namely Germany and France.

This will be a downer for Amsterdam's tourist industry.

I'm sure if you go after the new laws are put into place, you'll still be able to get high relatively easy. As long as the green isn't outright outlawed, you can skate the line illegally.

Not only Wilders got the Muslims upset but,the stoners of the world too. No question he will get extra protection in Parliment and elsewhere.

Drugs is not Wilders' issue, immigration issues are, and I can't remember him ever creating a law. He can only create a law with sufficient support of his coalition partners and most of his topics won't pass the threshold.

Most opposed to drugs are the Christian Democrats, Christian Union and the Reformed party (do you see the link here). But they can't stop it because they are a small minority.

Tildr: coffeeshops are still open. There is no law that will get you in jail unless you want to sell high amounts. Simply enjoy your smoke. Soulthinker, you are always welcome so are your peers.

    You can visit the Netherlands...

or you can visit California where they also grow some of the best in the world.

There are plenty of dispensaries in the state that provide safe access and high quality product. :weedman:
