I'm not sure what this article means about stalling when more than 7 million active users where lost in both Canada and the United States. Not to talk about the growth it mentions in Mexico. Is it stalling or is it losing?

lippy is not at all surprised that facebook will be or is losing...i just posted an article about facebook's use of facial identity software...i think as people become more educated about the internet they will opt out of certain social networks...anything you put out there can be tagged...copied...lifted...

facebook is known to bring people together and becoming even more famous for ripping people apart...personally i don't subscribe...i thought about it...started to put it up and within a day of starting to put together a page i saw too many people come out of the woodwork that i decided were better left in the past...

Facial Recognition Software has less to do with the down slope number of Facebook users and it's more to do with the typical decline in popularity being a fad. This is just the beginning of your typical fad. Remember MySpace? That was a big website until other social networking media websites took root, including the big one now [Facebook].

Plus, the numbers aren't that big of a deal since it's still incredibly big. It'll eventually go the way of MySpace when a new social networking program grows into its own. Right now, it's competing with Twitter, LinkedIn, Tumblr, and also Yammer [Facebook of the Workplace].

One thing I can safely address to all this is...if you have the prowess and drive, you can tap into Silicon Valley's successful running with technology and become an internet entrepreneur.

Yes, you are right there. I think it might be in another stage of its life-cycle. There is always the growth , maturity and decline stages in most technological products. Not sure which of the stages it is in. But I can say it certainly not in the growth stage in North America from the information posted here.

As for me, I have never be an early adopter of technology. I was sort of a Robin hood entrepreneur when information technology started catching on. Back then it was fun. When I reflect back on that era, I think Bill Gates killed the creative energies that were coalescing in the industry. He frustrated the creative spirit in the PC industry and moved on to shut out Marc Andreesen's Netscape.

My early experience has made me skeptical of the noise around new technologies. I let things settle when the dust clears and then make my decisions. I think that is great if you just a consumer and not an entrepreneur.

Where would people gravitate to next? Would it be Skype?
