I think i know what he is talking about. Many groups in Africa don't have the same concept as race being a part of your culture. Many groups in Africa adhere to their ethnic or tribal origin in defining themselves. However with every group especially in places such as ethiopia, eritrea, northern sudan, you have a diversity of different looks. So, sometimes it is hard to pigeonhole some individual in our western black and white paradigm. Here is a few excellient examples.

Question In your honest opinion would you preceive these people as being Black, if you seen them walking down the street?

Mind you this is so called sub saharan africa, and there are many examples of this. The Western idea of pigeonholing everyone in so called distinct categories according to region or area is definitely not workable.

What about Cheb Mami, the Algerian singer, who was best known in America for his background vocals in "Desert Rose" by Sting?

I have his album - he sang a song called "Habeebi" as well, (French lyrics if I'm not mistaken although it's hard to make out)... I love that album...

Here's my favorite - the first - song on that album...

Okay, now I feel dumb, 'cause I thought "I'm tink" was some slang phrase that I just wasn't cool enough to know xD

Yeah, I like his music as well, and the video you posted was great. However, i heard he has five year jail sentence in France. I was surprised to hear about that! I forgot his crime.
