    form makes the difference

administer proper form to deadlifts especially...

i love them to hell for grip/lift training (you'll be surprised how easy it is to lift your opponent off the ground after doing these), but if you do them wrong, you'll fuck up your lower back:smt091

Im scared as hell of deadlifts. LOL

It seems to me when you do exercises like that and squats you will need to keep your back str8 and do them as if you are sitting down naturally. also not to do them fast with jerking motions

as someone on youtube said...deadlifts arent a big deal...just lift the weight like you lift shit around the house...with proper back form :p

lift at the legs, not just with the back

    no doubt.

bench pressing using that safety cage...(you know the one with the long bar on this frictionless pole and when you are finish you twist the bar and it latches on to the cages notches. it also springs the bar back up when you go down to a certian level as though it is spotting you. it is similar to the cage type for squats) does it take away from your ability to get the most out of the bench press.

sounds like you're talking about the smith machine

i used to use a variant of that back at penn state, but havent used it since (once you use it, you don't forget it..very unique). It does take away from benching, in the sense that it only offers vertical movement. that's generally a no-no in lifting for maximum results. working a free-standing barbell makes you work on balance, coordination, and form.

but if you love safety and have a lot of money to throw around, id get one.

I go to the gym on campus and they have one similar to that one you are showing. I started with the basic free standing benching but I migrated to that because I dont have a spotter and when you increase in weight you want to have that. so I used that machine. But you are right it feels as though it takes away but at the sametime you feel as though you cant cheat in some way. I feel better using it because I dont have anyone to spot me.

as a matter of fact its more like this excpet for the lat pull down

i still remember when they first came in. I used to load up MUCH more than what I was using on regular benches. If you like looking at you move a lot of plates, it's good :D

just dont be surprised if you're not doing the same weight on a traditional bench.

on a side note, ever used one of these?

    it's called a jacobs ladder

    this looks interesting also

yeah I figured that as much. as long as I can be safe and still get results Im fine. I just want to be healthy and look good.

naw I never seen the ladder before it looks like a beast.

the body by jake machines look like a joke. what about the bow flex ? that look like a piece of shit after it gets home. my uncle had it and it look too difficult to use and no results. I was game when it first came out but.....

smith machines come in many variants, but they're credited to Jack LaLane (that juicer guy). RIP to an inventor

to be honest tho..i would prefer something like that without the vertical holding bars. The twist-lock mechanic to me is better than the protruding safety spotters found on most home benches like mine..

it's a nice bench, and I put in a lot of work on it (i got tape on this bitch already) , but those safety spotters are the worst lol

only bowflex stuff i have are the dumb bells

they helped me get the body that girls loved, so i cant knock them for effectiveness.

    the machines...i dont know...

all u really need is a pull up bar, barbell, dumb bell and a bench.

yeah, its all about preference on that one. I agree though you will lose something with the spotter thingy. I like it because I just dont have a spotter so I have that warm and fuzzy feeling inside. LOL. Im scared of fatiguing out and slammmmmm.

yeah no doubt. in the end you really dont need the long bar. just dumb bells to me its more effective and safer

I went years and years without a long bar. I got it because after years and years of consistent weekly workouts, I needed a damn change.

I went with the dumbbells, cheap slant bench, resistance bands only until like 2 years ago. The bands were pumping my chest up something fierce, lol.

I'd do 10/10/8/8/8 sets with the bands, and was actually getting stronger. I may actually go back to using them.

I need to get some good cardio in and eat rite. I want a flat stomach but hate ab-workouts. I dont really care for a six pack. not necessary to look good (beach body) . Im looking for a beach body per se. meaning just to have a flat stomach and a decent build. nice arms and chest and legs.

a flat stomach comes with eating rite and cardio. six pack comes with those and ab-work out.
