They may not be selling as many with high fuel prices & folks too broke to spend the money, but the pickup truck isn't on its way out.

Supply and demand. Tthey will produce until it isn't profitable, and by thw tme that happens, no one may using traditional gasoline.

yeah... the end of the pick-up truck will happen right after rural USA is gone... i.e, not any time soon.
Its a much needed tool for a very large group of people. Maybe the era is over in cities where people don'n necessarily need them, but that is also all. That was so stupid, like rural America don't exists.

Pssh, they're alive and well or at least have found sanctuary where I live in KY. I see them all the time, matter of fact I can look out of my window and down the street and get a good hand count. Not to mention the ones that are for sale on every car lot in town. Though I do live in a more rural area.

This pretty much sums it up.

Also, no pickups in Texas would be hard to imagine. Many Texans wouldn't know what to do with themselves.

You're right Tam. In fact, it's very much the trend throughout the South. It's also a trend that's continuing through with the next generation. I have noticed how many young white guys and Hispanic guys drive trucks in my area. I see significantly more of them in trucks than any other vehicles.

Yeah, pickups are the most popular thing on the road around here & many folks would be lost without them. Some of them treat their trucks better than they do their women, lol. My son bought a Mustang last year & it seems like everyone was asking him why he didn't get a truck instead.

I must say, not a fan of all the lifted pick-up trucks and the whole Cowboy/Country-vibe.

    I can't stand it, really.

It's one of the reasons why I don't like being in rural areas.

no kidding, it's fun when men talk about something with such admiration and love...that's my baby...then you find out he is talking about his truck...i have actually been thinking about buying a truck...just as an extra for home depot runs etc...of course, i want something you unique like a studebaker...

Yep, they definitely love their trucks & they take care of them like they are babies, lol. Trucks do come in handy for those home depot runs & hauling or moving large items. A Studebaker would definitely be unique. ;)

I don't own a truck and never will but knowing friends with trucks is always nice for hauling or moving things. ;) I'm with LA on the country/rural thing. If you want to torture me tie me up, rip out my fingernails and play county music over and over.

I prefer cars to pickups myself, but it is definitely nice to know someone with a truck who's willing to help you haul or move things. The things I enjoyed when I used to live out in the country was the quiet, being close to nature & the privacy. I also miss having horses. I prefer not to live in rural areas though. Country music is not my thing either.
