And here I thought, based on the comments from many middle class Black people about the recession, is that they get hit the hardest in all the mess. (I tended to agree)

    So this line...

    ...sounds very positive.

    Coupled with this part...

Combined with the story last month about Black spending more than ever, it seems things are turning a corner by and large...at least on paper anyway.

I can only say that this could be due to President Obama being president or that there's a Democrat in the White House. I could be wrong though. If this trend continues for future generations, then perhaps this study is conducted accurately.

The fact is, what's a so-called economic crisis in White America is business as usual for black folks who have always done more with less. You figure now you can buy a house for a song, car dealers are dying to work with your bad to so-so credit, and you're more or less equal in the workplace. Oh and there's a black president. Good times.

Growing up I've always had everything I ever wanted, so myself and others like me probably would feel optimistic about the future (and life in general) but optimism won't guarantee anything.

We've been on the fucking bottom in this country for over 400 years. Our unemployment as it stands today is at Great Depression levels. We're the last hired and the first fired. The gains Black America has made for at least the past decade has pretty much been decimated. I'd settle for less optimism and more realism.

Reminds me of this BW I work with who has 3 kids one with severe mental issues, a crack head husband, is on the verge of living out of her car and having her kids taken by children services but is damn near convinced White Jesus is going to fall out of the heavens on a horse and save the day.

*sigh* Sometimes it's just too much:|

Nice post man but I dont think barack has anything to do with it. I think it has alot to do with blacks now feeling that there are just alot more opportunites open to them now than there were in the past. Despite economic recession many blacks are now breaking into the suburbs as they earn their degrees and get good jobs and get promoted to management positions in their companies. Blacks at this point in time have more opportunites open to them than at any other time in American history. No longer do we face rampant job discrimination, or rampant housing discrimination, we are finally able it seems to live our lives as a free people and not be judged by the color of our skin but by merrit. Thats I think the optimism among middle class blacks has grown.

took the words right out of my mouth....the problem is we don't organize....other groups: jews, indians, etcs work together, but with us as l soon as we get a little success, we run off to a white neighborhood and never look back. that's why our success is always so precarious, we don't develop our own community.

Black people don't get along with each other. They rebuke other blacks who don't fit an image (or fit into their social circle). Blacks would rather argue, insult and criticize rather than listen, learn, understand and connect.

I have met a few black people who are genuine and easy to get along with but they are in the minority. As more and more blacks become versatile, educated and exposed to different cultures things will change.

They are already changing for the better.

    Question: Are you...

    1)...a white male?
    2)...a white female?
    3)...a black female?
    4)...other?
