Not a fan of Tarantino. Here's the summary http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/articl...mors-dicaprio-playing-tarantinos-lead-villain
I just hope it's not too much like the way he did Inglorious Basterds, I love Tarantino, but that was a load of shit for him. IMO, of course.
According to a 1995 Premiere magazine article, Denzel Washington confronted Tarantino when he visted the set of Crimson Tide. Denzel verbally lashed out at Tarantino about his use of the n-word in his films. Tarantino got embarrassed and wanted to move the conversation to a more private area. Denzel loudly said, "No, if were going to discuss it, let's discuss it now." Denzel Washington later said he still felt that Tarantino was "a fine artist", those of us who have had to deal w/ b.s. from co-workers, bosses employees etc. no the deal. This real incident shows that some African-Americans are not in love with him, even if they may respect him as a filmmaker. Unless someone on here has read the script I have know idea why there would be so much praise for. Why would anyone assume he is going to show WW/BM sex, when the story is about a Black Man trying to free his Black Wife, is beyond me. If anything it will have WM/BW sex or rape in it. He already showed a BM getting raped by WM remember?
I wonder if he did the same thing to Antoine Fuqua, who directed Training Day. (Denzel won the Best Oscar for it, too).
Yeah, I can see Tarantino saying, "Look man, try using it a lot in your next award winning movie, you might like it" And Denzel said, "OK'. (For the record, I HATE the word, and hate hypocrisy)
I never use the word myself and I wish that other Blacks would stop using it as well. I personally think every time we use it we give a license to use it. I have a friend who went to Europe and a German man there thought it was just a nickname for African-Americans. Having said that, there may be times that the word has been used to promote social awareness. Sometimes its use may be artistic but, usually today it seems 'commercial'. I think Tarantino's use may be considered gratuitous or excessive by some.
Tarantino probably told Denzel that if he approached him again he'd kill him. You know....since there's a lot of gangsters and killers in his movies that makes him one too.
In what sense? The director projected to the masses a character (like Quentin has) that indulges in the use of the n-word to fit the character. (A corrupt drug dealer BLACK cop, no less).
i completely disagree and some perspective is needed. first off, everyone is responsible for their own words, no one has a license to do anything. it has two different meanings when it is used by different races. most whites know what they are doing and are looking for a reaction.
black ppl use it as a term of speech, like friend or that person. like training day's cop used it. whites use to sensationalize. hence why taratino uses it 38 times in jackie brown. it is an obesession of whites to throw it around to spark controversy.
Whites in America, yes. Even some Africans think it is a nickname as Oprah Winfrey found out when she went to Africa and Black Africans calling her that as they ran up to hug her.
I have not seen all of Tarantino's movies. I am not sure if too many other white directors are using the word like that, I doubt it. If he used the word that much in that movie combined with Pulp Fiction that is outrageous. There is nothing of artistic merit in that. If people here want to continue to put him on pedestal that is their issue.
