Southwest tells mother & daughter they are too fat to fly

Lippy my overlooked point was if a famous A list celebrity didnt have a case against then I doubt your average Joe Schmo does. Btw if fat business men are always flying Southwest maybe its because the seats are bigger in business class or they just pay more. They don't want to ban fat people just charge them more so if some are paying more problem solved.

 

southwest doesn't have bigger seats..all the seats are the same size...business class or A list gives you an earlier boarding number...southwest is not assigned seating...you choose your seat based on your boarding number...

the beauty of southwest over any other carrier is that bags fly free...and you can change your ticket online anytime...cancel a flight...reschedule a flight and there is no charge for changes...sometimes i get money back and other times i might have to pay more for a certain day or time...

the comment that no one with money flies southwest may be true if you are talking about people who fly first class....southwest doesn't have first class seats but an A list or business select breezes through security exactly the same way someone that paid for a first class ticket does...i do it all the time...

southwest is also the most profitable carrier currently...when most airlines are losing money...southwest is making money...rarely do you see empty seats on a southwest flight resulting in the carrier having to bounce the obese if they didn't purchase two seats

 

I suspect southwest is a discount airline, similar to walmart that positions itself in the market as value for less. So it seems it has a market strategy that fits within the segment of the market they are operating in.

I would argue that if that is the case, then they are within their right to protect their business interest and to meet their bottom line. Somewhere, it would have been expressly stated the weight their seats can accommodate. And having same size seats is an obvious statement as well. I think it meets the reasonable test or principle in law, or any reasonable person should know that an obese man can't fit within same size seats. Those seats are well worn by the same body size. I mean clothing manufacturers that are in certain segments of the market like big size clothings are not being mandated to manufacture for smaller body sizes. On this basis they should be able to be exclude certain persons that do not fit within this market pitch.

But where it gets a bit complicated is the idea that on an A list or business class there is accommodation of bigger sized people. If there is space, I think they do not have to bounce. Bookings for air tickets are real time and its mode of operation does not allow the business to determine who to carry and who not to carry. Hence I presume this discretionary policy that probably allows staff make the judgement call.

Airline business is a deregulated industry. Government in many parts of the world have discovered how difficult to run airlines without suffering huge losses. Hence the lee-way they sometimes give airlines to work with their own rules. If they are no enabling laws to make airlines succeed, the consumers would be the worst for it.

I think a new market segment for obese folks might be opening up.

awww she was really embarrassed, and really upset so she covered herself in a blanket. not sure I get it. You got on a plane showing as much skin as was legal. She was asked to pull down her skirt, and pull up her tank top so damn near every part of her tittles were showing but the nipple. (probably)

My lil ole moms (5'0-5'1) had this issue happen once and almost a second time. Unfortunately, the first time, the plane was filled to capacity, so she was unable to move her seat and the lady squooshed mama-dukes. The second time, she flew with one of my aunts and was gonna be sandwiched again and luckily, she was able to find another seat.

I understand weight and deal with it on a daily, but you have to pay to play or in this case, fly. It's not fair to others. I say they pay for 2 seats. I'd comply if I were that big too.

 

Before the ass kissing starts and every woman tells IB how brilliant she is (which you are btw, I know where my bread is buttered and I ain't going anywhere boo) she just said what the guys have been saying but she'll get a pass because she's a girl.
