Oh, no, I disagree. She has stolen the best of Madonna, Grace Jones and Klaus Nomi and has recast it for the young generation. She is a walking piece of performance art. Can you imagine the discipline to never be seen in a pair of sweats getting gas or coffee? If Warhol was alive he'd be trying to get next to her as a Superstar.

Musically, it's basically Euro-trance, but after all these boring-ass Bush-era Starbucks-friendly artists like John Mayer or Norah Jones, or a bunch of negroes trying to out-thug each other, Gaga just came in blazin'. I was in a hotel room when I saw the long version of Telephone my God, that shit just fucking killed me. I could make a whole other post about how BRILLIANT that video is (and I LOVED Beyonce in it!).

Not to mention the young gay kids have their own icon now instead of old-ass Bette Midler or Liza.

And don't worry, Akon is getting his contractual % for signing that broad.

Oh, and she is not a creation of producers, she comes up with all her own shit.

Too bad Ke$ha came out right around the same time, she got flooded out in Gaga's wave! No Brit/Xtina shit here, we see who the winner is.

I am not the biggest Gaga fan, I don't even think she's attractive at all, but I applaud her social impact and ability to shift units and mp3s and sell out shows especially when the industry itself is DYING. Not to mention she pisses off bible-thumpers and conservative assholes.

Win-win.

 

Karma, bear in mind that DB is a traditional feminist. Even my ex-girlfriend would be in agreement with her relating to Lady Gaga and other pop culture figures. If anything, people like Gaga are mainly anti-conformists or artists of a different nature. That would be a more accurate statement to describe someone like Gaga.

 

The reason I apply the feminist tag to Gaga is she's a female artist in control of her own image and music. The rap on her is that she's popular. If I called Laurie Anderson or even Madonna a feminist no one would bat an eyelash.

 

Perhaps in that light, yes. But from a political standpoint, calling her a feminist is too much of a stretch. And people like Anderson, Madonna, Amy Winehouse and other women came from those periods where women were starting to get more recognition for their achievements as being women. They were more political and part of that movement, whereas Gaga is just a performer doing her own ways to entertain the public.

She's (Gaga) hardly an influential figure in the political realm too. Remember the DADT debacle? She's an ardent supporter of LGBT rights. However, despite the strong fanbase, she couldn't convince Congress to repeal all this. And why? They just see her a weird celebrity with no real power or lobbying capabilities.

Gaga herself has said shes anti-feminist because she loves men. Don't even get me started on THAT!

 

She's a Brit, but she also broke some barriers, which does count as political statements. Don't hate.

 

What barriers did she break? White British girls singing Motown style? She opened the gates for Adele and Duffy, other than that, not much.

 

LOL I'm liking her more and more.

 

The same could easily be said about modern artists like Gaga. The only difference if that Winehouse isn't commercialized and don't try too hard to be different, unlike Gaga.

And for the record, I really have nothing against Stefani Germanotta. She's really nice in person, although a bit aloof at times.

And Dreaming_Blue, she was a bit sarcastic. But she's actually bisexual.
