Right, I don't disagree with what you wrote about.

...we can "but" and "what if" until we are both blue in the face. This wouldn't be a question where this a civilian envioronment, nor was this thread a comparion (so I'm not sure about the point you were trying to me)

....if would not be acceptable in the civilian envorionemt...well...duh (I'm not quibbling I'm not sure of the point you were trying to make)

...but with regards to civilian attire I didn't suggest "head phones"

No only COULD this happen it HAS happened. Before coming here I worked at the Pentagon, and trust me........show up not following the dress code, you are going to get sent home. Really not questions asked. Whether you are with your family or not.

I also worked at a company called BioVeris (formally IGEN). A BioTech firm as a marketing agent. Same thing....show up not following the dress code and you will be corrected..

    ...not might....WILL.

Again, the biggest difference here is that at the end of the day the young warrior will have a job, in many company's violation of company/regulation or policies will have you looking for a job come Monday.

i would have to agree with some of the other responses here...
it's not that you were wrong. the military world is definitely one that us civilians do not fully understand. and i respect that. but in general, it seems (from an outsider's perspective) that maybe your full response was a bit excessive. again though, this works fine in the military world. and may even be necessary to prove a bigger point, which if i am understanding correctly, was your initial point anyway... that the young soldier needs to understand how things work and act accordingly.

but once he did the chest bump i am all in, he should have had his teeth handed to him.

and the mother... she has no business interfering at all. its not her place nor her "fight", she needs to keep her mouth shut and let baby boy learn how things should work.

There is, but if you are in uniform you wear it how its supposed to be worn. And if someone approaches you....whispers in your ear....and you take offense to that....

    ...if that's a power trip

...you deserve everything you go coming to you. I think many of you skimmed, over what I wrote (which is cool I do it too). I tapped lil dude on the should, pulled him to the side and told him he was wrong.

...very simple. Now by Army regulations I could have locked him up off the bat, but that's now how I do things.

Indeed, Indeed....actually how I handled it might be a bit out of character for me. I can be pretty aggressive. I put the same story on a military board I was on and one the guys I've know for about 10 years asked me of I was getting soft.

    ha!

I'm a war fighter on a Admin base. But once I pull you to side and correct you, really I'm doing you a favor because I don't have to. That's really it. In an infantry environment, you don't get the whisper, you don't get the low-key correction. You get your ass handed you....

And the lil dude's mother. WAS OFF THE FUCKING CHAIN! MUTHA FUCK YOU...AND BLAH, BLAH, BLAH,...

....I can see where he got it from.

    ...no father in sight.

ha! Can you image thousands of Soldiers in uniform that can't take being told to take off their headphones in uniform. The entire country should be worried.

The thing I'm getting stuck on is that a man IN uniform chest-bumped and initiated the physical altercation with someone in public. Unacceptable.
He should have been thinking that he is in uniform and cant disrespect that by doing something stupid like that.
Once you are in uniform, its not about you anymore, you have to think about what perception you put out when you are in uniform - at least to me.
He should have kept his head cool. Regardless if you acted right or wrong.
So that is a moot point - he was wrong period.

actions lead to reaction....not condoning it, but if someone is provoked, they will respond.

Completely disagree - He Initiated the physical altercation, period. Most people would not actually initiate physical contact like was described. If you can not keep your cool in a situation like that, then, you don't belong in the army.

Had Ymra initiated physical altercation, then you have a point - he did not.
It was words, the dude in uniform should have kept his cool, there was no reason to chest bump, that was immature and stupid. especially in uniform.

To make it clear, I'm not here to argue if Ymra did right or wrong.
I'm only arguing he fact that dude initiated the physical altercation, in uniform. and that that was uacceptable. No more, no less.

Your intial reaction was right, but maybe a kinder gentler way such as reporting him to his supervisor?....I know in the heat of the moment things get out of control, but this sounds bad.

Powell was one of the most strategic minded General we had. Had we listened to him we would not have spent the last 10 years in a war with no ened.

I spoke to my Supervisor about it this morning who was rather shocked all I did was push the kid. I think what comes into play (in this thread is) lets stick it to Ymra. That and the ignorance (not to be taken as an insult) with regards to military.

Actually BACU surprised me a bit (unless he didn't read the whole thing...or he has a very limited time in uniform.) Little of both.

    what this amounts too is....

    Soldier assaults NCO
    NCO retaliates
Soldier screams I'M CALLING THE MP's.

....by that time its far, far, far too late. But this is how the warrior in my situation and BACU. The younger breed of Soldiers. Who believe they should be able to say anything, and do anything without reprisal.

    My son and I

Chances of him hating me.........................very slim. But it might be possible. My children are SPOILED. They don't have to worry about me coming down hard....they have to worry about their mother.

I like it when my children are brought up I get to post vidz. woo hoo!

    What else you got?

    You being too smooth contributed.

His cards were on show, you were hiding yours (yeah, literately and figuratively). Approaching him out of uniform like some random stranger telling him he's not in uniform appears anal, frankly. You could have identified yourself upfront so the greenhorn UNDERSTOOD from a superior he was out of uniform code. His brain isn't wired to respond to you approaching as a civilian, but it is as an officer, so you needed to be fair and identify so the kid could have said, "sorry, thank you sir", and taken them off.
