I still think what Shao (the OP) did was incredibly brave. I thought he acted on his gut instinct and wound up alright. We can talk about woulda coulda shoulda all day long but in the end all that matters is that he's safe. AND those punks will never mess with him again (I hope). I agree that he might want to think about relocating.

I've never been mugged in the Ville after 8 years, although I have been sexually assaulted (minorly the other day), which I almost view as my own fault for being so preoccupied that I let it overcome my normal survivor instincts).

Question though.... WHY would black guys pick on another black guy over some other passer by (say, like ME for example - I get approached almost every day)... You would think he might be packing (your victim)??? I mean, you can never be too sure. Why would you choose another black guy from the neighborhood, when you could get some stranger or obvious outsider?

Why do black guys pick on other black guys? It's a complicated situation that I don't think anyone can really answer. You got other situations where you got some dudes who just like start shit with other people and it doesn't matter if their black, white, latino, indian, etc. You got some niggas who just like the fuck with you.
