This IS NO NEWS, 15% of America thought Martin Sheen was really the President of United States because of his west wing acting
All to more reason why I'm sending my children to higher education. I can never going to live in Detroit at all. I'm going to teach my children Japanese language at very young. Not just Japanese language, Chinese too as well.
not surprising, lacks of resources dedicated to education and high unemployment equals illiteracy......thank you reaganomics...:smt071
This is a far bigger problem than is being reported. Makes me wonder if the United States can compete with a world that want to replace it in terms of leadership. I wonder is the United States indeed on the decline. I will make damn sure that my children will be the best they can be in the world that is coming. Most folks around me could give a damn about what is happening, I will make sure that I will not fall into the same trap.
Again, African Americans bearing the brunt of the American way of life, if I remember correctly Detroit is over 80% black.
My sister teaches in Detroit. I am from Detroit, got my college degree from Wayne State University before joining the army. What people don't realize about Detroit is at one time, it was literally the motor city. All three auto companies thrived in Detroit, Ford, General Motors and Chyrsler. As an assembly line worker, you could make over $100,000 a year w/o a high school diploma. This is what drew a lot of people to Detroit. Especially people who didn't have an education. You have immigrants who can't even speak english, let alone know how to read or write but yet make more money working on "the line" than most educated Americans. Now that the auto industries in Detroit no longer dominate the auto industry, you are starting to see a shift more towards education. Its going to take a while though, many, many years.
I almost did a post-doc there at the eye center...... went for an interview but had second thoughts just getting there from the airport.
black parents need to start giving a fuck about education. Its obvious their kids dont. Parenting failures all around
Why not? I'm trying to be a good parent to my children. I want to raise my children the better than I was in the past. I'm not going to be my grandfather like this. My grandfather spoiled me rottenly and had me transferred to different class that he thought it would be easier for me to take... So, that's why I want my children to take advantage to learn two language much quicker at young age. Of course, I'm going to have them to learning sign language as well. You see? I'm very worried for my children. I want them to be able to read and understand what's surrounding them. Of course, Math and Science and Reading will be my top priority for my children. Fail is not an option! :smt018
That's cool n all but Chinese and Japanese doesn't surround us. If you do teach them that, I hope they will have a chance to put it to actual use outside the classroom.....which they probably won't in this country.
Detroit is chocolate motherfucking city and most cities go through cycles of death and rebirth. Detroit will become a shining diamond again.
