LOL, you aren't a pack rat are you lippy. :D

I'm a neat minimalist, so I only get what I need. If I don't have use for it out the door it goes. :)

So generally I'll buy new, but just what I need nothing more.

It's a testament to American society that seems to value everything new. In Europe you can streets that are hundreds of years old, old buildings that still have utility are valued.

For me, the idea of recycling has meaning beyond trash. I like the idea of rescuing items that still have useful life. I bought my last food processor for $5 at an estate sale in my neighborhood.

I collect vinyl records about 85% of the ones I buy are used.

i love pre-loved stuff. it has a soul and character that new stuff just can't have. one of my most favorite items i've ever owned was a friends grandmothers retro leather 2 seater couch.

I don't have the patience for thrift stores and garage sales. I hate sifting through piles of stuff I don't want with the chance that maybe I'll find something that I do want... But I will gladly buy things 2nd hand from eBay!

Probably 90% of the things I own are not new. I love going to thrift stores, the Goodwill, flea markets, consignment shops... I have a few good quality/interesting pieces of antique furniture - even my sofa is 1940's horsehair!

I shopped on Ebay back before paypal, where you'd have to send a check in to the seller to get your stuff, lol.

Although I am not in my apartment yet, when I get everything unpacked, my apartment will super artsy and completely original. I have really interesting clothes, too - I shop for good quality - don't just buy a bunch of shit at one time. My shoes especially are good quality (Aldo, Bjorn, Via Spiga, Nine West), but I usually get them at seconds shops for like $20 or $30.

When I get a pair of new jeans I have to scuff the knees with sandpaper and wash them a couple of times before they feel right lol. Buying used is the bomb! Haven't been to the mall in years but I buy current magazines to make sure that I'm staying current and not getting too eccentric looking (like the ladies with the cat vests and broomstick skirts haha).

Most of the rare CDs I buy are used. Used shit is the shit, especially when you hit up gamestop

I'm not that picky. I like to save money when I can. I think it's silly to spend a bunch of money when you can get the same thing for a little bit of money. I don't mind gently used things. Here, in the apts where I live, we have a "free table" in the laundry facility/room where people put stuff that they don't want any more and are too lazy to go through the process of trying to sell it. A lot of clothes and books mostly. But sometimes there's nice household type of items. I enjoy making treasure out of "trash" :) and exercising my creativity. :)

Not everything has to be new for me. But it mainly depends on what the item is. When I moved in my apt a few months ago, I went to several thrift stores, outlet malls and the peddlers market which is basically an indoors flea-market. I ended up finding a brand new Simmons queen size matress set for a hundred bucks. I was too excited, love my bed btw. lol

But most the things in my apt come from my parents place, just stuff they had in the basement and werent using. My good friend friend hooked me up with dishes and drinking glasses. Only thing I had to come out of pocket for was my cook ware and utensils.

Shout out to my friends and fam yall the best. lol

Awww that's sweet, lippy (of her and of you!) What is it about so many ridiculous things with cats on them, and also so many ridiculous vests with all kinds of crap on them!!

I've found some secondhand treasures over the years. I got some great deals on used furniture, even some that needed restoring which I can do myself. I like to hit flea markets, garage sales & secondhand shops. I buy books, household items, furniture, & on rare occasions I've found something I would actually wear. Some secondhand places that sell clothes are too cluttered with dirty, old clothes...I get dizzy & claustrophobic in places like that from feeling like I'm going to be smothered with funky, unwashed clothes. I prefer to shop in places that actually take the time to wash clothes before they try to sell them, & I avoid the places that don't.

Of course I like & have bought new things, too. I never buy used shoes. When I bought my house, I started out with used appliances, but as they've died over the years, I've invested in new ones. I bought my couch, loveseat, TV & mattress new. Most of my clothes I buy new.
