You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Tamstrong again.

You're assuming you know what I think. I acknowledged that he has a huge opportunity, which means he has the potential to make great movies. IMO, he's not making the best use of that potential. A couple of them were so-so, but he undermines whatever "positive" messages he tries to deliver because the amount of negativity (via stereotypes) throws off the balance. His scripts need work & there's a lot of overacting going on. It's hard to take his movies seriously when it seems like he doesn't take them seriously himself. Like I said, he could do much better.

I'm not going to get in a back & forth with you on this. Like you, I'm entitled to my opinion. Let's leave it at that. Peace.

Perry is who he is.. thats never going to change. His films and TV show are what they are they don't need to change. If anything I would encourage Perry to expand his studios and bring in other black writers and directors who can tell different types of stories under TPStudios.. Thats a positive way to encourage diversity in black films, not making him out to be the villain responsible for all of black americas ills. If his detractors (including Spike Lee who has better access and greater influence than all of us)would do that rather than coming at the man like he's evil incarnate then MAYBE things would change in the state of black cinema. In terms of one black man to another Spike did the every thing he's preached against. And I'm sorely disappointed in him for that.

And whats the point of a message board if you can't have back and forth:rolleyes:

I don't fuck with neither one of them

I don't like Tyler Perry or Spike Lee but I do respect their accomplishments. What Spike Lee need to do is focus on making some good movie and stop hatin on Tyler Perry. Who the fuck do think he is? He's made plenty of shitty movies over the years. So he really shouldn't be concerning himself with what Tyler Perry is doing.

Tyler Perry is fuckin clown in my opinion. How long is this dude going to rid the Madea train? Can't he see that shit has been played out for while now? Another thing I hate about Tyler Perry is that he feels like he has to put on a damn dress to make people laugh. It's disgraceful in my opinion, however, if that's what he has to do to get that money I'm not mad at him. I just think he's corny.

because like Perry who has a responsibility because of his fame and money..Spike has the same responsibility to bring blacks together rather than create a schism. Spike could have and should have handled his issues in a more positive way...they way he did it wasn't.

This is what Spike said, seems very well thought out and while clearly expressing a contrary point of view, is not disrespectful in any way. In your opinion how could he have handled it better, keep in mind, he was asked a question, and he responded, he did not just volunteer his opinion on TP.

“We’ve had this discussion back and forth. When John Singleton [made Boyz in the Hood], people came out to see it. But when he did ‘Rosewood,’ nobody showed up. So a lot of this is on us! You vote with your pocketbook, your wallet. You vote with your time sitting in front of the idiot box, and [Tyler Perry] has a huge audience. We shouldn’t think that Tyler Perry is going to make the same film that I am going to make, or that John Singleton or my cousin Malcolm Lee [would make]. As African-Americans, we’re not one monolithic group, so there is room for all of that. But at the same time, for me, the imaging is troubling and it harkens back to ‘Amos n’ Andy.’”

Spike isn't perfect, but he does have a point. Heprobably could've delivered that point in a more positive manner.

I think sometimes Spike comes across a little on the arrogant side, but I honestly think that's his way to jar people into thinking. I don't think his intent is to stir up drama, but it seems like his seriousness sometimes backfires & creates defensiveness in folks. Of course, people usually get defensive when something strikes a nerve.

you're only showing a piece of his statement...

    [YOUTUBE]Ciwhh3fB6vE[/YOUTUBE]

calling something coonery and amos and andy is fighting words so to speak..

Spike spoke his mind but it should have been something that he spoke to perry in private with first. not in the media. Spike has a history of doing that and it always makes controversy and doesn't solve anything.

Wow...he is a sad case. Instead of hatin, he needs to step his game up and make better movies himself if he thinks Tyler's are so horrible.

I don't have a problem what he said I have a problem with who he said it too. He disrespect Tyler Perry for no reason. Where I'm from if you got a problem with a man you step to him and voice your grievance. If he really had a problem with Tyler Perry's work why not talk directly to him instead of making it public? The grownup thing to do what have been for Spike Lee to sit down with Tyler Perry and tell the man what he think of his work. That why shit would have been between them two. Since he didn't do that now we got two very accomplished black male film makers at each others throat for no mutherfuckin reason. It's bad enough we got these clown ass rap niggas setting a bad example but now we got respectable black men like Spike Lee and Tyler Perry engaging in the same foolishness. It's disgraceful in my opinion.

Yes, I had posted a link to that same interview earlier. To me he was respectful while still making what I believe to be very valid points. It's not like he called a press conference to make his views known, he was responding to a question posed to him. And who's to say he did not reach out to TP privately, and who's to say TP would have appreciated or responded in a productive manner if Spike did contact him privately.

I remember the Eddie Murphy bit where Cosby called him up privately to give him constructive criticism, and Eddie told him where to go (to put it nicely). IMO, Spike was not out of line, perhaps TP could learn to handle constructive criticism better.
