I think the biggest thing is that there isn't really an alternative means of capturing him. Someone can't run up to him, tackle him down and put on handcuffs. If he was put in a jail cell, and then we celebrated, wouldn't it make more sense to celebrate and not have people complaining over it? But this is Bin Laden we're talking about. It just isn't practical to treat him like a "standard" criminal.

I think this could be the compromise that would satisfy everyone on both sides. The people that want to celebrate can celebrate, while at the same time we know that America's image abroad isn't at risk.

Hmmm....I'm impressed that you all have the time and energy to have these long diskussions (more impressed of myself for even being able to read more than one of them) and responding!

Well being Swedish I guess I can't really grasp the situation fully. I just know the sorrow I felt when all the lives were lost on 11/11. I was on a plane from the WestIndies to London and on to Sweden when the first plane hit the tower. So my mum got a little scared for a moment, until she looked up her geografi, hmmm.

For me it has felt like the US has been at war since this happened and I guess in war people die and people who win war celebrate this.

But I don't think it's ever ok to take one life for another. But nothing is ever black and white :D and I am glad he is dead (hypocritical as I am) not celebrating it though.

So these were only MY thoughs about this...just felt like posting it....don't want any respons on it. Want to be able to post my thoughs without arguments. Silly me....

I agree. The Seals asked him to surrender as that is what the honor code calls for. I am sure they found no joy in killing the man. People are assholes.

Point understood. Some of the people who have celebrated acted as if they were a-holes.

Unfortunately the reason that I hang on to my Canadian citizenship. All I see is Ugly Americanism around here. Most of my best friends are from other countries.

Wow, calm the hell down, Kuni. Great Gatsby. You'd think I just said that I'm glad 9/11 happened.... ridiculous.

And no. I never worried about my safety. I don't live my life to live in fear. I just don't. I had MANY friends in NYC during that time. I went to a university packed to the brim with New Yorkers, so I saw the way what happened impacted people. But, I refused..REFUSED to get on a plane and think 'I might die today.' after that.

The reason I said I might be afraid for my safety now is because I DO travel, and they will be on the lookout for us wherever we go. I'm not saying it's doomsday, but people crazed with a desire for vengeance who aren't afraid to die are the scariest people on earth. I guess that doesn't make sense to you, or I didn't articulate that feeling well enough. Anyway, that's what I'm talking about.

I found the response of celebrating in the street distasteful. I am more than allowed to say so, just as people were allowed to conduct themselves like a bunch of heathens before Moses came down from the mountain. I mean, c'mon. You can't say you weren't the slightest bit shocked to see such celebration about the DEATH of a human being? I don't care what he's done, I won't celebrate his death, but I will not mourn his passing.

As Mark Twain once said “I have never wished death upon another man, but I have read some obituaries with great pleasure."

    Right. Thank you.

there is a difference in cultures.

Just like the Japanese people where not screaming and yelling, or looting, or shooting at first responders after on of the biggest natural disaster in its history...unlike us and Katrina.

This is spin. There is a different between being glad that a man finally met with justice, and celebrating the death of a human. To suggest that they are both the same in comparison is silly man.

...and after the fact people are conjuring reasons "Oh they aren't celebrating that he's dead they are celebrate..........bullshit."

I got no love for the bastard, but I am saying that we should act with more honor as a nation.

Kuno, I haven't read any other posts beyond this yet because I had to say straight away that I absolutely DID NOT neg rep you about anything!!! If someone put my name, then I'm fuckin' pissed, because I do not give out neg rep for differences in opinion. The only time I've ever neg repped anyone was trolls for highly offensive posts.

I'm sorry you got neg rep, but it wasn't from me. And to be honest, I was surprised at the hostile tone of your rep.

Really we could just disable the rep system. Anyone can type in someone else's name in, in place of the person who's actually giving rep.

Look, I want to bow out of this conversation now, because you're responding to me for an argument I'm not even representing. All I was doing was responding to footage I'd seen on the news that DID include people celebrating that the world was a safer place and I had two points:

    1. I don't believe the world is safer

    2. Dancing in the streets and celebrating can be viewed as adding fuel to the fire for retaliation.

I don't begrudge American people the right to be satisfied with this outcome. I know how devastating 9/11 was, please don't talk to me as if I don't understand the enormity of the events. I know Osama was an evil individual and deserves what he got.

    And now I'm out.

I hear there are protests about bin Laden's burial at sea not being appropriate for a Muslim.

Well then there is someone on here who is neg-repping under your name, along with leaving rude/insentive comments with it. Please understand I replied with hostility because of the neg comment left to me. As I said, it was the first time I've ever neg- repped and it was only in response. I would never have replied as such otherwise, and even held back out of respect that I thought we were e-friends. It was just so out of character, so audacious of "you" that it caused a knee jerk reaction in me. I'm sure the cowardly bitch or bastard who's impersonating you to smear you is snickering right about now. I wish you could track who sent it to me. I will pos rep you to make up for it, so fuck you impersonator.

Whoever the fuck thought that was a smart idea, FUCK YOU. And make that a general memo to everyone on this forum, if you get neg rep signed with my name, believe me when I say it will not be from me.

I was a little affronted too, cos I considered us e-friends and wondered how I could have pissed you off so much in the few posts I had made... but I understand why you did it, so it's cool. I might email webby to see if he can track who did it.
