The sad thing is I actually think the Jersey Shore types think how they're acting is THE coolest way to be/act/dress/speak ever on planet earth.

it raises a strong moral question from the beginning, with relation to what happens in a time of war, and whether or not those emotions carry on in peace time. Like befriending a north vietnamese soldier in the 21st century.

 

ah ok, There was a lot going on in that movie. I had some what of a clue but couldn't put it all together.

 

it wasn't the best war movie, but it was good for what it was: a somewhat historical depiction of a black infantry unit in ww2. Blacks aren't really represented during that time period, and Spike just tried to put us out there as a part of 'the greatest generation.':smt109

were you expecting something like Saving Private Ryan or Band of Brothers?

spike tried to throw multiple genres into one film, that's all.

It was part war movie, part adventure, part drama, part romance, etc. Saving Private Ryan had no romance or comedy, and just focused on real gritty battles. Maybe that's what made it do so well. That and the fact that Spielberg is a legend.:mrgreen:

 

I am comparing this movie with the band of brothers since I do not remember much from saving private ryan. Any how, what I didn't like is the way he portrayed some of the soldiers. You got one that believes in nonsense. You got another that besides knowing his friend was going after a girl this guy does her any way. That just didn't sit right with me.

I think if you want to make a drama movie, adding large comedy segments in it will not help.

That is true POJ. I never watch WWII movies since it appears that the White men saved the world without help. The Black WWII soldier faced two fronts:White men domestic and foreign(German) or Asian(Japanese). It took more than 60+ years for some to get the Congressional Medal of Honor. I'm glad Lee made the effort in making this movie. If a White director made the movie about say The Tuskegee Airman they better make the racial prejudice against them raw with no sugarcoating.

 

they released a movie about them a while back, but Lucas was looking to revive the fabled unit. from what I recall in the original film, the brothas got shitted on until they started saving their white brothers during furballs with the Luftwaffe.

If Lucas follows through with the revamp, ill be the first in line to see it. But like you said, he better not sugarcoat the racism because that's what makes the story so epic. Not only did these guys master the art of flying, they also mastered themselves and their mental toughness.
