For me it's easily Nick Drake. My favorite genre of music is singer-songwriter(more specifically Chamber Folk) and he's responsibly for my favorite chamber folk album. Nobody(I really mean nobody) could paint a picture as beautiful as he could. [YOUTUBE]R6zCmCIsoAE[/YOUTUBE] I just wish talentless hacks like Elton John and Norah Jones would stop covering his songs. So what about you peeps, what deceased artist is your favorite?
Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Solomon Burke, Teena Marie, Nate Dogg, Tupac. [HDYT]SQU4torUz-Q[/HDYT] [HDYT]IqaOp7sIy0w[/HDYT] [HDYT]mEu8DrO9PbY[/HDYT] [HDYT]hjYYyOpAoW4[/HDYT] [HDYT]1plPyJdXKIY[/HDYT] [HDYT]nlvS_Uk5yJM[/HDYT] There are too many to name, so I'm gonna have to just keep adding to my list.
that's hard to chose.. hmm let see miles davis, hendrix, marvin gaye, bon scott, joey ramone, cliff burton, etc it's was harder than expected
To add to some splendid choices... Bob Marley, Sugar Minott, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain, Sarah Vaughan, Lady Day, Nina Simone and a LOT of Classic composers.
Jimi Hendrix, Marvin Gaye, Mongo Santamaria, Thelonius Monk, Ismael Rivera, Bob Marley, Roland Alphonso, Jeff Buckley, Desmond Dekker, and the list goes on and on... Writing this made me realize how much amazing talent has been lost over the years. [YOUTUBE]cFIqxnSo-gQ[/YOUTUBE]
2Pac, lyricist yes, musician, no. And ladies just because he had a six-pack doesn't make him one. Please stop trying to work him sideways into the pantheon. Thanks.
Women lost credibility with me when they said they thought Nas had the better diss record over Jay-Z because he was "cuter". Same thing with sports you know how many females love the Yankees because of Jeter. Sad.
Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson, Jackie Wilson, James Brown, Ray Charles, Bessie Smith. [HDYT]3j3okb3kuts[/HDYT] [HDYT]oKAtwlnjIeg[/HDYT] [HDYT]jgyl_LBdcxo[/HDYT] [HDYT]Y7Z56dxeGMA[/HDYT] [HDYT]E4rG4GRTVB4[/HDYT] [HDYT]b0TDNR3NEY0[/HDYT]
You're talking heresy son. Cobain changed rock and roll single-handed. You'd still be listening to hair metal if it wasn't for him. And all 2Pac did was introduce all that homosexual thug shit into the black community as if we needed it. Mofos sitting in jail right now, looking up to that fucker. Thanks Pac. He had a couple of bangers but his impact is wildly overrated. Biggie is better because he was fat and still got over, no pretty boy bullshit, all talent. Brooklyn forever, fuck 2Pac.
And the stupid nigga bitches (who have 5 kids by age 16) who still think 2Pac is the sexiest man alive. Them and the boys who show their asses in prison are the reason why the black community is as alive as the stegosaurs.
Cobain himself admitted that Nirvana songs were just a load of Pixie rip-offs. Without the Pixies Nirvana wouldn't be Nirvana so I'd hardly say he did anything single-handedly. Need I remind you that one mere song separates Nirvana from being superstars to being nobodies. They were never able to back up Nevermind or Smells Like Teen Spirit. Also not only is Nevermind not the best rock album of the 90's, but Cobain isn't even the most influential alternative act from the 90's. Was Cobain a great singer? No. Was Cobain a great guitar player? No. Did Cobain create a new genre of music? No. lol so yes I say he's overrated.
*Snicker* So what was the best mainstream rock album of the '90s? Blind Melon? Nada Surf? LOL What Kurt did was bring underground/cult (Pixies, Killing Joke, etc.) to the mainstream, plus that whole Seattle wave was basically on his back. The man never purported to have invented anything new. In fact he was ashamed that jocks that tormented him as a kid now liked his shit. Again the man single-handedly put long hair metal out of business for at least 20 years, mofos like Motley Crue, etc. are just now recovering. I've got all Nirvana's albums except Bleach, all good stuff and he indeed followed "Teen Spirit" with "Come As You Are." So nyah. Stick to your emo Nick Drake shit, leave the heavy shit to us real men, haha.
