I'm sorry, I just don't think that working out is really all that impressive on a man that he should earn millions for it...sure, you can create a muscle. Big whoop. Do you want a cookie that you can wash down with your creatine?

There's a whole bunch of problems with sports...our entire culture is infested with sports hero worship. Frankly, it makes me sick. It would be awesome if every sports franchise shut down for five years and people actually did something with themselves besides shouting at the televisions and waiting around for the next 'big game' (of which there are now like, what, five of them each day?!). Shut it down for once, kick out the owners, and take it back to paying $1 for a ticket to the ballpark.

We don't care who won the Nobel Prize (if it wasn't Obama), or for what, but we care how many yards Joe Blow was able to run the ball last year?

Does that even make sense to you?!

Think whatever you want but she performs the hell out of those songs. I'm not a fan but I respect her hustle.

Wow again way to make light of unbelievable accomplishments, my brother is a world class athlete and will be in the Olympic Games in 2012 and he did simply just work out. That kid has shown unimaginable resiliance and incomparble spirit. The amount of sacrafice and discipline to get up everyday and work your ass off just to be a hundredth of a second faster, to jump a few centimeters higher, to throw an inch further is down right inspirational.
It shows people that what's seemingly impossible can be done with hard work and determination, it shows us that in every single one us lies the ability to far better than who we are.
Often times I look at that kid and it amazes me that we're made from the same stuff but he has a something about him that makes you want to dare to be great too. So go and be sucked in by all the media hype about professional athletes all being assholes because it just makes you sound like one when you have the nerve to dismiss their hard work. Being a professional athlete takes way more perserverance and hard work than being a teacher(btw my brother teaches too) statement of fact deal with it.

Btw watching sports makes a hell of a lot more sense than watching two strangers get married. It's just a shit load of desperate lonely women living through another person hoping their prince will one day come. You defend the royals like you have some type of real connection to them. Geesh

Possibly but short lived or not it was earned. She had to beat out a shitload of other people to get where she is. You don't think millions wouldn't love to be Gaga right now.

Exactly. I love how people praise Lady Gaga for her "uniqueness"(though nothing about her is original) and how "entertaining" she is, but when it comes down strictly to music there's nothing they can say.
Yes I'll admit home girl can make some good club bangers, but nobody with any taste in music will consider her a serious musician.

Question. Have you ever seen a Lady Gaga album on a Years End list?

Also Iggy, as I stated earlier I'm always up at that time anyway. Since there's nothing else better to watch at 4AM, watching the royal wedding is of no inconvenience to me.

Lady Gaga was un Ugly Duckling who worked her ass off to make it in the big apple. Meanwhile your brother prince Williams happen to be born to "the right family". He was born with silver spoon in his mouth while Gaga worked hard for hers. Also nobody said she is a musical genius or an orignal talent, she is a good entertainer, period.

You might not want to hear this..........but it was just for looks.

BUT what Australian Soldiers are you speaking of????

As of May 2009 no Australian Soldiers, but one air crew and two trainers have been killed in combat in Iraq,
    http://defence.gov.au/opEx/global/index.htm

now ask yourself how is it that the biggest and LONGEST war since WWII hasn't lost ANY Australian Soldiers.....

...because the troops you did send were stationed far from battle so there be no politically backwash.

    you were not needed...

....and if Australia is ever NEEDED....its to late for all of us

@MrFantastic: Yeah, poor little rich kid never had any hard times to deal with, right? Come on dude, what's all the hate for? Just because he was born a prince, doesn't mean his life is automatically awesome, in fact it seems pretty miserable to me. Unlike the rest of us, William doesn't get to choose how he lives his life or what he does with it. I'm sure he'd love to have a quiet wedding day with his family and friends, but he doesn't have a choice. I wouldn't swap my life for his any day of the week, I get to live mine, he gets his dictated to him and spends every second of it in the public eye. Nothing against sports stars, musicians, etc. but they chose their lives too, having the freedom to choose what you do is a freedom we all take for granted.

Watch it if you want, don't watch it if you don't want, it's going to happen whether you do or not. It's not really my cup of tea to be honest and having recently broken off an engagement, I don't really want to watch someone else's wedding right now, so I'll be giving it a miss myself.

I do think it's a bit rude to go on an UK tv show and rant about the royal family if that's what he did, but eh, it doesn't really bother me that he did. It's his opinion and he can have it.

Worked her ass off? I'd hardly say so....

It seems so long ago but remember how Lady Gaga first started to get buzz? It was because people weren't sure if she had a penis or not.
Then she started to become more famous for the crazy outfits she was wearing all the time.
The bulk of her fame has came from things other than her music.

I love how you mention her working hard as if that's any indication of her talent. Working hard doesn't equal talent especially in the realm of art.
You can paint 100 pictures a day but that doesn't mean you'll ever create a Mona Lisa.
No. Lady Gaga just happened to get lucky at the write time(just as Bieber did) and gain a mass audience. From there she creates simple easy to understand pop music that feeds to her mass of simple minded fans.

Nobody with a real knowledge of music sees her as a serious musician. I'll repeat it again even though Ymra still won't be able to grasp it. The fact that she's never on Year Ends list is all the evidence you need.
12 year old girls who aren't aware of music outside of the top 40 may love her. However anyone with taste won't be impressed by her.

I agree with most parts you wrote. Yes she is got no talent, yes most of her buzz is from her outfits and other Shenanigans that she puts out there. My point is, she is an entertainer and works hard to entertain ppl on whatever "craft" that she is got. She never had a silver spoon that is the difference.

Give me a break, any celeb who whines about not able to walk to grocery store or to a local coffee shop like average Joe blow is a bullshit whiner. If you ask that celeb he/she would never change a role with my miserable life in a million years. If you are a celeb, you are getting all these privileges and unparallel lifestyle coz of who you are, so you go thru a little more scrutiny than the rest of miserable fucks in the world, big deal, suck it up.
"I can't live life like everybody else, ppl take my pics all the time, blah, blah" Boo the fucken hoo, cry me a fucken river.

I'm not even talking about the royals anymore, dude, pay attention.

Like I said, I'm sorry, I'm just not that impressed by athletes. Great for your brother... but he's not in the Olympic Games yet...he's still got to make it through the trials. TONS of athletes qualify, only a precious few athletes make it. So, I'll be impressed when he qualifies in the trials. And really, that whole deal is so overshadowed by controversy over the use of performance enhancing drugs that you're pretty much supporting my point, so...thanks. :)

And no, being an athlete means you can stick to a schedule, and that's all you do, day in and day out being as selfish as you please. It takes real testicular fortitude to take anything being thrown at you and turn it into a learning experience. It takes a lot of heart to get up in the morning and know that no one respects the hard work you put in and out of the classroom and still be passionate about that work...give me a break. Athletes and teachers? There's no contest.

That's my point though- WE DON'T RESPECT EDUCATION in this country anymore. We should. It's all we've got to look forward to. Sports should remain just a game, something we happen to play once in awhile, but not the focus. It's the focus. That's what gets on my nerves.

He's not a celebrity in that sense. As I've already said, he has no choice in it. He doesn't whine about it that I'm aware, he wouldn't be allowed to. The kid's mother died when he was 14 and they didn't even get to hold her funeral in peace. His every move is dictated by someone else. His father married his mother because he was told to. It's impossible for us to comprehend because we've never been in that situation and never will be, even in prison we still have our basic human rights and a certain amount of choice and freedom of speech. If you would choose that life or think that that's a good life, then more fool you, but he didn't choose it and I sincerely doubt he would've.

I'm not telling you to cry for him, I'm telling you comparing him to celebrities who chose to live their life in the public eye is ridiculous.

Yeah because you're a hardcore athlete. DB can you stick to a schedule that doesn't come with any guarantee. Can you not eat and drink whatever you want, can you sacrifice not seeing family and friends when you want to. Any yahoo can teach very few can be elite athletes. Its not lack of quality teachers holding back American schools or even athletes it's people themselves. If there were no sports people would pick something else to distract themselves with and by the way my brother won a World Title already I won't say which one publicly on here but he will make the trials hater.
Btw the topic of this thread was about the Royals and you made the stupid comment that watching sports was a waste of time then what do you call having a party celebrating a strangers' wedding?
And seriously like an ignorant asshole when you say that all the athletes in sports are taking performance drugs and that's why they're good at what they do. You don't have the heart nor the discipline to do what most of them do so stop hating. It's sad.

I could not care less about royal families in general, and I actually come from a Monarchy.
They get annuities payed by the state and very few of the actually do some figure head "work" in return, this has accumulated for generations and have become a quite substantial amount of money.
I think I have said since I was very young that they are the biggest social welfare case in the history - referring to the Swedish one then of-course. It pretty much goes for all of them as far as I am concerned.

I will not watch the wedding, I could not care less.

On the other hand, I thought it was tasteless of Seinfeld to verbalize is the way he did - on UK television.

I agree with this. The problem with sports, it is a multi-billion dollar business & rooted deep in our culture. It aint going anywhere soon. Most kids aspire to be a baller than a teacher, a doctor, or a lawyer. I also agree with your ealrier statement that athletes get paid millions and are placed in the highest pedestal, but team owners take the bigger check, so if a team owner make large money out of these athletes then the players should get paid large amount of money as well.

The sad thing in this country, teachers get little or no respect, smdh.

Sheltered celebrity royal life vs. how 90% percent of the world has to live(a lot of it caused by said royalty I might add) no contest. Stop being slow it's not cute.
