I have never been called one until today, I was at the store and a femalen was trying to holla at me I guess. She says hey boo, what yo name is........ I had the wtf look on my face, then the uncle tom came out lol.. I asked her why I got to be all that, she says. You think you highand mighty, talking all good and other %$#..........iam I wrong. For using correct english when I talk to someone ........sorry about the erros. Iam typing on my phone lol
Nothing wrong with a brother speaking good English and NOT ebonics, too many people have issues when you speak good English and they think you are high and mighty. I understand you cuz i speak English well and with good diction and i get this surprised look accompanied by "well well you speak very good English for an African and i am like WTF?
I wouldn't have necessarily had a 'wtf' look on my face, but I would show through my own behavior that I don't just speak in ebonics. If she insists on being rude, just ignore her. I've been called an oreo before, and I just found it funny that it was those kinds of people in school who would ask me about homework would have nothing to do with me because of my outwardly different behavior. I say fuck em. Just walk right along and keep doin' what you do best.
Speaking good English does not make you a Uncle Tom if that is true the situation of Blacks would be much lower and I wonder if they say that name to Malcolm X and Martin King?
Don't feel bad. I remember this one girl from my high school who basically had an attitude problem with me from day one. One of my friends asked her why does she hate me so much. Her response was: 1) "He's the sickest nigga on the planet." 2) "'Cause he's a fake black man." I shook my head, but later expressed my disgust towards her at our Senior retreat when we did a "pairing" exercise. She tried to deny it, but I did over hear her mention those exacts words again to her buddies. And then when she attended the university, she tried to talk to me a few times, but I brushed her off. I'm a nice guy, but I have little patience with people with those kinds of attitudes.
you know i hear this alot from those type of bw, id love to ask one of them whats their idea of a "real black man"
Try being a black man, who is active in the community. He speak on black issue and black problems... ...and be married to an Asian woman. What generally happens is bruthaz get married to non-white women, and sort of fade into the sunset. Black issues aren't their issues anymore, and if so....only in passing. Rarely do you see (and I"m not talking about the internet either) black men who express pride in being black and the black community.....and married to a non-black woman is rare. I have been ACTIVE in the community for years....I know.
