Why did they have to invite Obama? They invited the people they wanted there, as the resident Brits have explained, because it's not a state ceremony since William is second in line to the throne.

Through the years, William has met, and likely befriended, David Beckham, especially considering how much he enjoys sports. They also invited ambassadors that reside in London from nations with whom they have diplomatic relations... the U.S. Ambassador WAS invited.

i don't understand what all the fuss is about really. i'm sure if the roles were reversed & it was ol barack & michelle getting married they wouldn't go and invite wills & kate...i wouldn't even expect the queen to get a guernsey to the event. the us have no ties to the british royal family...they're not even part of the commonwealth. our prime minister is going to the wedding, again, we're part of the british commonwealth.
