    I'm from the old school so for me: megadeath

    I still listen to alice in chains, six feet under, mudvayne more of the older stuff. I'm not familiar with many of the new bands in 2011.

    Wait, are we talking hard rock or are we talking metal? Most white people don't know what metal is. :cool:

    Metal actually has many genres. And most bands mentioned don't fall into the metal category.

    LOL, I had a motorcross friend in college that was a metal head and got me into listening to Sepultura because the dude listened to metal 24/7 and some of the songs kicked ass.

    No need to doubt yourself. In most cases, if it has a lineage passed down through Sabbath, has very distorted guitar, a strong subgenre following, and is highly underground, it usually is metal. Although the traits are beyond what I'm saying here.
