with all of the recent tornados...bad weather patterns...people losing power...how many of you are prepared for a disaster on any level?

my son and i were talking about this at breakfast this morning...we are going to start preparing for a disaster...i need to do some research to see what we need to have on hand...quite frankly, i feel at this point it is better to be prepared than to not be prepared...

let's make a list together...what is essential...how much per person per day should be on hand?

According to George W, all we really needed was garbage bags and duct tape for the windows.

I better get some more tape... ;)

Everything except a gas mask. I want a bulletproof vest too. Life is all about prepartion, it often means the difference between life and death.

    lol srs?

    Where do you live?

It's perfect where I stay. No tornadoes, earthquakes, snowstorms, or floods. We have the occasional hurricane but we have fair warning and they hardly do anything around here.

Its not a game kid. Can't act like it is. We live very soft lives here. My dad has always been prepared for bad shit since he came from a hurricane prone area like Jamaica so this shit was part of our childhood in my household.

Okkkay, I thought that she meant more along the lines of weather preparedness, rather than vampires, zombies and mustard gas.

But, seriously, I lived in Southern Florida for a few years and a lot of people had generators in their homes, either permanently installed or portable units. The problem was that people literally had to guard them during shutdowns, if you didn't live in a gated community, because someone would back a truck up to your home while you slept and still the generator, even as it ran.

She said disaster preparedness, she didn't specify what kind fam.I didn't think of a generator but I don't live in a house.

If disaster strikes, I'm screwed. I don't even own a pair of sensible shoes...

As you would say, "fair enough". It's true that I was making light of some of the items you suggested. They just struck me as funny. If you read her comments though, she does refer to tornadoes, weather and power outages. So, I thought the comment were fair game. I guess I better keep my day job.

Generators can come in handy if you live in places like Florida. The humidity and heat can make air conditioning more than a nicety if you are without power for days at a time. In addition to the items you mentioned, along with a generator, I owned a couple of the small Coleman type stoves with two burners and a small gas powered frig. With the frig I could use the generator keep on the lights, AC, and computers. As for food, I had a store of protein bars, peanut butter, couple of cases of water, and fruit.

That's good planning. I never thought of gas powered stuff but where do you keep the gas because it might not be readily available at a pump.

Then prepare yourself it's not too late.

My gas generator was installed on a concrete pad outside of the house. It was powered by natural gas. I also had a couple of generators also capable of running most of the appliances and AC, one used diesel and the other used portable gas. The grill used Propane gas as well.

If you lived in Southern Florida and a hurricane was predicted, there was always a run of gasoline. People would take several containers to purchase gasoline and diesel. I had one of those plastic fuel containers that looks like a mini-gas pump with the spigot.

Don't forget the most important of the rules for dealing with the fast Zombies of Zombieland, Do your cardio, Beware of bathrooms, Wear your seat belts, Travel light, and above all, Double tap, don't be stingy with the ammo.

By the way, there's a Zombieland 2 in the makings.
