    Oh. My. Gods. :smt042

We have quite a few kids down under called Australia Day and Anzac Day (national holidays). I heard on the radio a little while ago that there were a couple of girls in a school called Christmas and Christmas Day.

ANZAC stands for Australia/New Zealand Army Corps.

I also read of a man (in the U.S.) who named his child ESPN.

Back in high-school - we had a project where we were doing this little project looking at names and their popularity. We came across this case where some parents had wanted to name their newborn son Gravel - their reasoning was that if they could have a son named Stone, why not Gravel??
Apparently the Priest had refused to conduct the services with that name.

Gravel, that boy would have been beaten so bad i school!

Gravel? How weird. Honestly I think 'Stone' is a very strange name too.

A soap star, a few years ago, named his son (yes SON) 'Peanut Kai'. Now that's a boy who's going to have to learn to fight.
His father is on General hospital (Ingo Rademacher).

I have an extremely strong impulse to name my first son Anferny ever since I watched Mean Girls. It's a little dream of mine. Siiiigh. Maybe as a middle name?

    Why is Marquise weird?

    That's a rather common name.

I think the name 'Hunter' is a strange name, or naming your kids first names with last names.

It might be common in your area, but I've never heard of it. I'm not even sure how it's pronounced. Is it suppose to be some silly spelling of "Marcus"???

The other names you mentioned aren't bad. Certainly not stupid (although I'm not a fan of the name 'Hunter' either). And it's not really about what's common or not, it's about what's plain stupid. And sorry, but marquise IS, in my opinion. :smt045

    It's pronounced "mar-keys".

And thank you for calling all those black children named Marquise stupid.

It's a common name in the black community.

I didn't. I said the name was stupid, not the children.

As for it being common...what difference does that make? 'Apple' is a common name too, my sister went to school with a lovely girl called Apple, but it's still a stupid name. :smt042

Different cultures have different common names.

There are various common names amongst Armenians that many people would consider 'stupid' if they aren't Armenian.

Same goes for various other cultures.

Very true. I'm sure my name is considered stupid somewhere. I don't mind at all. If it makes someone smile, I'm happy. :) This thread is just a bit of fun, hence the reason it's in the humour area.

Are you having a hard time with the word "stupid". Because that was aimed at names like ESPN, Aqua Waters and Gravel, perhaps the word "funny" should have been used? In that case, my bad, but don't take this thread so damn seriously.
