Nine-time Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis is set to announce a run for a state Senate seat in New Jersey. The Star-Ledger reports that Lewis will run in the 8th legislative district against a Republican incumbent. The Burlington County district skews Republican, but Democratic leaders believe having a famous athlete as a candidate could swing the election. NFL player Jon Runyan recently won a congressional seat in the same area. Between 1984 and 1996, Carl Lewis won nine gold medals, including a historic four at the Summer Games in Los Angeles. During those boycotted Olympics, Lewis completed a sweep of the sprints (100m, 200m, 4x100m relay) and long jump, duplicating Jesse Owens' feat from 1936.
The Chicago Bulls drafted Carl Lewis in the 1984 NBA Draft as the 208th overall pick, even though he hadn't played high school or college basketball. Though he did not play football in college, Carl Lewis was drafted as a wide receiver in the 12th round of the 1984 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys. Damn, mofo was drafted by NBA and NFL, damn.
So was Dave Winfield. If he brings his BF to his campaign rallies, then I'll support his candidacy!!:smt006
There are rumors that he is. Damn, what a waste of great Athletics gene, he should be knocking up some super model chick and create a great Athlete, instead he is cheering for the other team, smdh.
The brother should had gotten a super model and have a son or daughter. Politics is a dirty sport and he better have the money and a thick skin.
