UCONN is putting up a brick wall. They haven't had much of a choice. I would be lying to myself if I didn't give credit to Butler's defense as well. It makes it look like a shitty basketball game, but the defense is pretty astonishing at the moment. Yeah, a bunch of shitty shots too, but I still say the defense is forcing a lot of em.
true. a lot of it has to do with defense. but butler has had some open looks and just keep clangin it. like uconn ladies last night.
I've been a UCONN fan since 1994. Seriously, no bandwagon crap going on here. I live in Massachusetts and really never have been a fan of BC or UMASS, it's always been UCONN. My only regret in life is that I didn't get in there myself. Hopefully Coach Calhoun doesn't retire. He should coach until his last breath in my opinion. UCONN can in now way be doubted as one of the greatest Basketball programs in history from this point on, and that is all because of Coach Calhoun. I love ya, man.rayer:
Yeah, Okafor has a ring from the 2004 squad that also featured Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva. That was an ill ass squad. He finished his career with the UCONN lead in blocks (still current record) and was the Tourney's most outstanding player.
Okafor's NBA career has been the total opposite of his college one - a disappointment. To be fair, the first years of his career were in shitty ass Charlotte (the team, not the city; i love the city). Also, his lack of size and a polished offensive game really is hurting his progress. He's a great defender and okay rebounder, but in the Western Conference where they are too many skilled and superior bigs - Duncan, Gasol, Bynum, Odom, Scola, Dirk, Jefferson, Aldridge, Randolph - he simply cannot measure up. Injuries haven't been kind to him either, slowly chipping away at his freakish athleticism. Seriously, did y'all watch the dude in college? He was scary. But speaking of UConn, I am happy for them. I remember an ex of mine went there, and I always have good memories of going up there, hence my soft spot for the Huskies. I wouldn't have minded if Butler won though, I wanted anybody but Duke to win, hate those smug bastards :smt071:razz:
Good question. I don't know why. I just always felt like they were this group of spoiled little rich kids who happened to know how to play basketball. Just always kind of wanted the underdog to win, you know?
Duke first came on the scene as an underdog, Upsetting an undefeated UNLV team in the final four, and they were disliked back then too as I remember.
