Mr. PettyOfficerJ: I MADE IT I was awarded Shodan-1st Degree Black Belt yesterday evening. It was a great feeling to be accepted by my peers and those above me. I partied hard last night with the wife. I owe my success to my wife. It was she who urged me to do this to get my black belt rating and to go to school. I will present the outline on testing I had to go through. What a way to finish out the year. Next goals will be the Nidan - 2nd Degree Black Belt and a Masters Degree. To all the great people of this site. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Talk to you on the other side (2011).
now it's time for the fierce Tiger to become the wise Dragon I know...'Perfect Weapon' ripoff. But the logic makes sense. Good job man :smt030

Just began my BJJ training this week. The head instructor sat me down and went over a few techniques (americana, a choke, and a sweep), to give me an idea of what to expect before signing up. Afterward, he sat me down and went over a few price plans, and that was that. I figured with all of the MMA/UFC matches I watch, it's about time I got to see what all the fuss is about up close.
139 a month, if i recall correctly not the cheapest around, but they've been in philly at the same location for 20-something years. they seem very organized and into competitions and keeping up with that stuff, as well as street science. plus, they're not that far from my job and allow me to take class before it. After i'm done practice/showering, i have about 45 mins before my shift.
I use to pay the same for krav maga but 140 is kind of steep for one system. Let me know how the classes go
140 is pricey... i think i need to downgrade my cable tv package. I hardly watch the shit anyway as for the classes, im interested in seeing how my weight training will come into play, when it's time to go a few rounds on the mat with the guys. Explosive power and strength gets factored in when a move requires it. I may need to sneak in some extra cardio work as well. as for the people there, everyone was classy and friendly from the ground up. At the end of class, we walk in lines and shake each others hands. Reminds me of the team sports I played in high school and college.
u just gotta stick with it like i said tho...the guys that were there were around my age group and were pretty cool and friendly. making someone turn purple in the face, makes the entire day go by smoother i just have to watch some individual bjj moves on youtube from instructors, and maybe pick up a book and use the stuff in class, since I can only go twice a week.
Yeah I need this stuff bad. I need to be in better shape and there's something about knowing you can fuck a nigga up that makes you walk with your chest out a little more lol
lol i was walking with that kind of swagger (more than I normally do anyway, being all buff and all) after one class rolling through bjj with other guys that know more than you or are stronger, makes you tougher mentally and physically, and that starts to give you an aura. makes riding the train at 1am a bit easier, unless someone pulls a gun
2nd week in, and I just had my first live grappling x 2 rounds that were both 3 minutes long my arms and shoulders are bruised and marked to hell, from all the rolling and jostling for submissions against 2 other guys the good news is that I was able gun for side control from the guard and work some angles there (guess watching all that UFC/grapplers quest finally paid off). I only go twice a week, so a lot of the stuff that i've been using was found by paying attention to fights on TV, since you can only learn but so much in short classes. all in good fun :smt109
