"Show me a young Conservative and I'll show you someone with no heart. Show me an old Liberal and I'll show you someone with no brains." - Winston Churchill
Show me someone who believes in either side and I'll show you someone who has yet to wake the fuck up. Neither side cares about the people- Andrae09
His comment has to be reversed. Why? Conservatism in this light can be considered a neurological disorder.
And for the record... They should keep the word in the books. A word is only strong when you give it power to influence you.
How do you guys feel about blacks using it among/toward other blacks should we stop saying it as part of our lexicon
Negro please...you're too broke to be conservative....you don't have shit to conserve. Do-gooder bible-thumping conservatives are the ones always trying to control what people say...even while they are blowing strangers in the park.
But it's all true. Broke-ass negroes trying desperately for acceptance to the point of claiming to be conservative...all the while too broke to pay the cable bill. I can see broke crackers acting like that..but a BM
there's nothing wrong with editing it out, but on a sidenote, in this day and age i wish some of the great black writers were included on school reading lists to add some needed diversity to school reading lists- suggestions- slave narratives( incidents in the life of a slave girl by linda bent(harriet james was her real name) the auto biography of fredrick douglas the book of american negro poetry by langston hughes go tell it on the mountain by james baldwin
Never said I was a conservative fool. I'm just pointing how both sides claim to fight for the people but want to dictate their lives. Conservatives- want smaller government so it can't control our lives but want to tell us who to marry and what do with our bodies. Liberals- fight for free speech as long as its speech approved by them.
LoL. I have yet a conservative on this board explain to me, what Conservatism mean to him/her? What are you trying to conserve?
So, would Fox news, the NRA and the KKK be among those liberal groups using first amendment claims to advance their agendas?
The modern American notions of liberal and conservative are not always literal or part of historical liberalism or conservatism.
Another great comment from someone who gets it. Thanks for saving me the time to post a rebutal:smt039
Well, we don't have to wonder any longer. But the liberals are the ones who pushed for it. Dumb on their part. Liberals are always trying to control what people say. I've said before conservatives want to control your body but liberals want to control what you think and say through pc propaganda. I'm not picking on Andrae, I just think that it's factually incorrect. Were the liberals the most upset when Ice Tea came out with lyrics about killing police? Were the liberals taking The Too Live Crew to the Supreme court to try to censor their songs like "She's So Horny"? On the contrary, liberal people, even those that didn't agree with them, advocated their right to say what they wanted to say. I noticed that Open Heart agreed with Nico that the N-word should not be removed from Huck Finn. In other words, no censorship. Alternately, I remember her becoming upset with another poster in a post on a different subject for "using the name of the Lord in vain". Well, that's a reality as well. So, isn't that hypocritical? My point is that often it seems that people are ok with censorship as long as it doesn't upset their own sensibilities. We are in fact censored all the time. You can be arrested for disorderly conduct based on your use of language in public. The art of Mapplethorpe has been censored because of it's nudity. Television censors a lot more than the N-word. There are many words that remain off limits for use in dialogue, and that's controlled by the FCC, which I don't think of as a liberal group. There are many different versions of the bible beyond the King James version. Yet, all those versions are accepted as they don't change the meaning or intent of the original writers. So, how is removing the N-word different? We have accepted many changes in the lexicon regarding people. The reference to Black Americans has undergone several iterations, Colored, Negro, Afro-Americans, African Americans and most recently Black Americans. If we take as a starting point that the self-esteem and ultimately the achievement and productivity of children can be affected by how they feel, should we do all that we can to change those factors? If we agree that what we say to children can affect them, do we have an obligation to change those words? We refer to homosexuals, people of short stature, native Americans, Asians and many different references. Is it ONLY to be PC, or do we hope that we are giving minority groups, who have experienced challenges, a greater opportunity by not doing one more thing that might have a negative effect on their lives. Censorship is present in our lives whether people realize it or want to accept it. Censorship is only censorship depending on your perspective on a particular topic. I'm not advocating any position but it's good to look at alternate perspectives as we come down on one side of another on a topic.
