Yes that's because 150 years ago Slavery was the southern way of life. However last time I checked there are no more slaves in the South. So the South no longer represents slavery and racism. The definition of "Southern way of life" has changed, so having a Confederate Flag doesn't make you racist. If Kid Rock was racist then why would he associate and befriend so many black people? The swastika is not racist. It was first used by the people of ancient Mesopotamia. Even Greeks, Romans, Chinese, and Native Indians used it. Just because the Nazis adopted it for themselves does not make it racist.
