I just finished watching a television special on Jon Jones, the 23 year old African American who's fighting for the light heavyweight championship this Saturday. He's an amazing young fighter who's been given the opportunity to fight Shogun Mua, the reigning champion. Part of his athleticism must be genetic as his brother is defensive NFL player, Aurthur Jones. During the special I learned about his tremendous faith and spirituality that guides his life. He also has a young family, two children, a baby boy and toddler girl, both of which were born from his relationship with his white girl friend. Why do tall guys have such petite women, lol. He's 6'4" and she appears to be no little more than 5' tall and very petite. In any case I hope that he does well. He's mature beyond his years and dedicated to his craft. On Saturday we will see if he can live up to the hype, as he's being considered a heavy favorite to win with 63% of the public putting their money on him.
It seems that Jon Jones can add "Superman" to his title, even if he doesn't win the light heavyweight title tonight. While meditating in a local New Jersey park, just two hours before the biggest fight in his life, Jones went to the aid of a lady whose purse had been stolen. He heard the lady screaming that someone had stolen her purse and gave chase, for a mile, before kicking the assailant to the back of the head and promptly holding him there until the police arrived. Now, that's poise and character.
and here I thought you were spoiling the UFC fights over the weekend. The card (overall) was very action packed..id suggest watching that one. I finally got to see Uriah fight, after hearing about how good he was at work and shit. Cant wait to see GSP in the next UFC main event.
Here, for anyone who wants to watch last Saturday's fight. http://www.mmageeks.co.cc/2011/03/jon-jones-vs-mauricio-shogun-rua-fight_20.html
Nope, not a spoiler, just an admirer of the young man who's done so much in such a short amount of time. I think Jones has the full package, his obvious skill, charisma, being well spoken. He has a chance to move the UFC toward even more mainstream acceptance in my opinion, and he's still only been fighting in MMA for THREE years. Uriah was great in his match as well. He should be fighting for a championship soon as well. I always enjoy watching GSP fight, but the man prior to Jones was Anderson Silva IMO, a truly exciting fighter. I don't give Rashad Evans much of a chance against Jones in their announced fight. The dream fight might be Jones and Sliva but they are in different weight classes and I don't see Jones going down in weight, though Anderson could move up in weight for such a dream match. Stay tuned... Btw, thanks for the upload of the fight Tirkah, I can't wait to watch it.
Yeah i love when they announce a GSP or Silva fight. I make sure I catch them. The Silva/Sonnen fight was real good, as it was the first time Silva got his ass beat in the UFC. If you didn't see that, you gotta hit it up. As for Jones..the mothafucka is only 23. But they said he's got a brother playing big time football with the Ravens, and another up at Syracuse, so the genetics is definitely there. And they said he's only been training MMA for 3 years, unless you count his JUCO wrestling days. These guys been doing MMA all their life. That shit is embarrassing.
And he taught himself watching youtube videos("vedio's"); that's probably why he's got those unorthodox moves.
yeah, if he went through traditional training, he probably would have more restriction that's the downside of that..you generally learn a certain way, from a certain set of instructors. learning the way he did, he was able to have more freedom and it's paying off:smt023
Jones actually admitted this during an interview. But, as master Bruce always said, it's about doing the unexpected. Bruce Lee was one of the first who advocated not adhering to forms, disciplines or kartas. He thought that you should just do what worked, and that's what Jones tries to do as well, and it seems to work very well. I can't imagine who they will pair him with as he matures and fills out as a heavy weight.
